Happy May! April was a literal blur since it was packed from start to finish! Here’s what’s been happening in the Adams household, with my work and with my health. (And thank you to those who told me last month that you enjoy my letters – I enjoy them too so I’ll keep doing them!)
The most exciting thing that happened in April was that my parents visited! My parents live in Utah (where I grew up) and with two young boys, it’s hard for me to fly home often and it’s not super easy for them to come here either, so it’s so special when they do! We didn’t do much, but like I shared here, just having them around was the most special part of the trip for me.
I’m hoping to go to my annual family campout in August, but I just found out that Tommy has a golf tripduring that time, so I’m trying to figure out if I can swing it. It’s a long flight and then involves a three-hour drive after flying cross-country. But it’s so fun to have the entire family together and Thomas talked about being with his cousins for months afterwards. I’m hoping my nanny can come but she is starting nursing school this month so her schedule will be changing a lot (so so so sadly).
Before my parents flew in, Tommy was in Augusta for the Masters, and then after their visit, he played in a three-day golf tournament and then was out of town again for golf, so we just haven’t had a lot of normalcy — and I’m craving normalcy. I’d like to think May would bring normalcy but our nanny starts nursing school next week and our childcare will look dramatically different. Soooo we’ll see how things shake out!!
April was also absolutely bananas with work. I don’t feel like April is historically that busy but wow, this year was. Thankfully, Salem came on full-time in April (yay) to train before Hannah goes out on maternity leave sometime in May (eek!!!). There is so much for Salem to learn, but I can tell she’s learning so quickly, and the fact that she’s been working for me part-time for the last year is definitely helping her get up to speed even faster. And she’s just an absolutely JOY to be around. I kind of hate that she’s so busy with computer work and isn’t at the house as much anymore!
Here’s some of the content that went up last month! It’s always helpful when you click my links and shop with my links since that’s how brands determine if they work with me again. And when y’all DM me to ask for my links, it means more than you know since I know that’s an extra step for you but it’s so incredibly thoughtful and makes a difference for my entire team!
My breast pain continues to improve (yay!), which indicates even more that all the pain has been muscular and not cancerous. But I still have a follow-up with my breast specialist next week to review my latest scan and possibly do a biopsy.
My joints continue to let me run (another yay!) since cutting out gluten and being really diligent about my anti-inflammatory supplement routine (Oliveda internals, turmeric, Balance of Nature fiber & spice, and Green Compass CBD + CBG). And since I’ve been running more, I’ve felt motivated to do more running content on my blog. It’s a throwback to my A Foodie Stays Fit days! And I even revived my running Instagram account that I have just for fun (usually Instagram mostly feels like work!).
I have hundreds of running blog posts so I’m updating and resharing the ones I find the most helpful as I get back into it myself. I’m not sure I’ll ever train for marathons again and I doubt I’ll ever be as fast as I was, but that’s okay. I just want to enjoy it (and “enjoy” will likely be defined differently in my 40s than in my 30s) and feel healthy enough to run.
I’ve been running 2-3x a week and then strength training 2x a week. I’m hoping to get back to pilates (which I didn’t get to do all of April given everything we had going on!). But I went to pilates on Thursday and it felt SO good to be back! I love strength training at the gym too, but pilates is just so, so good. (And it helps I get to wear cute outfits!)

I’m a running mom with a two year old and a four year old in Chapel Hill! I love your blog and instagram and how open you are about the ups and downs of life. I took my kids out to CO to visit my family last summer and I did the trip solo. It was much easier than I anticipated (other moms had kind of scared me about it) but I just brought lots of snacks and activity books and also got a lounge pass (because we had a layover) which helped a ton. Doing it again this year and also doing another trip that involves renting a car and taking a ferry. I’m always nervous about it ahead of time and then so glad I did it after the fact. Happy to share more tips if that would be helpful!
that is SO encouraging – thank you for sharing. I think what stresses me the most is flying across the country and then driving 2-3 hours. It’s just such a long day.
I always rent a car through Turo and use Babyquip for a crib – check those out if you haven’t!! Game changers for ease with kids.
