When is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and What Should I Get?

When you get to shop depends on your status (which is largely determined by whether you have a Nordstrom credit card and how much you spend each year).

  • Sale Preview: July 6 – NOW LIVE
  • Icons: July 14-17
  • Ambassadors: July 15-17
  • Influencers: July 16-17
  • Everyone: July 18-August 9

What to Get

What to buy depends on what you need in your closet. I’d look at your closet for gaps so you can shop with intention and not just randomly, since it’s easy to get caught up in the sale hype. The best deals are on designer denim, coats, and sweaters. Sometimes there are great deals on timeless boots, but sometimes (like last year), the shoe selection is meh. The last few years, I’ve felt like the dresses and activewear options have been underwhelming as well. The kids’ selection is always solid, though – think Nuna car seats, UppaBaby Vista strollers, high chairs, and Thule jogging strollers.

The best deals sell out FAST — popular sizes are usually the first to go, sometimes on day one. I keep an eye on what’s selling out and what’s restocked all through the sale, and my email list hears about it first. You can join here. If you prefer text messages over email, join my text list here. (I won’t text you every day of the sale — just when a best seller comes back in stock.)

My Nordstrom Sale Picks + The Best Deals

This year, there were over 9000 items included in Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, so it can be a bit overwhelming to shop. I broke it down by category so you can shop based on what you need most in your closet.

What Will Sell Out First?

Based on 15+ years of shopping and covering the sale on my blog, there are recurring trends of high sell-out risk. BUT, Nordstrom is allowing backorders this year for items they’re confident will be restocked — which means you can add sold-out items to your Wish List. I especially appreciate this because I always find things through others that I want to add to my wishlist, and couldn’t in the past.

  • Designer jeans – sizes 25-28 typically go the fastest, especially in Mother, PAIGE and Madewell. Joe’s, AG and Pistola sell out too, but not usually as quickly. Medium washes tend to sell out faster than super dark washes. I predict the Mother Bookie Sneak Mid Waist Bootcut Jean will be the most popular pair of jeans this year.
  • Affordable jeans – Kut from the Kloth and Wit & Wisdom sell out too, but typically restock fairly regularly. My guess is because people order the wrong size and exchange them. Historically, you need to size down in these.
  • Everyday boots – boots in neutral colors, with low block heels, sell out quickly because they’re versatile and comfortable. The Dolce Vita Salma or Paige Lyra Pointed Toe Chelsea will likely go fast.
  • Athleisure – Spanx and Varley sell out quickly too.
  • Closet basics — simple tees, sweaters, sweatshirts, everyday dresses, especially things under $100.
  • Coats – Certain coats will sell out quickly – typically, cropped, midweight options that are under $200, like this Ralph Lauren Waxed Raincoat.
  • Sneakers – every year there is the IT pair that is gone almost immediately. This year, I suspect it will be the New Balance 530 Sneaker in Gold Metallic Linen.

Jeans & Pants

The good news and bad news is that the NSale denim selection is very similar to last year’s – but last year’s selection was really good, so if you need new jeans, you’re in luck. I have over 50 pairs of denim, so I very much do not need more denim, but it does make me the best person to advise you on the most flattering styles and what size to get.

Jeans I own and love included in teh sale

  • If you get just one pair –Paige Anessa. I bought these last year and love them, but I should have sized down. They stretch out a bit. Joe’s Mia High Waist are a close second top pick.)
  • Best white jeans Paige Leenah High Waist; while the white might seem too spring/summery, the wide-leg style will be great paired with crew-neck sweaters and booties, especially if you style them with all neutrals.
  • Best Budget Pair Levi’s Ribcage High Waist Straight Leg; have loved for years, but size up.
  • Best Mother Jeans Mother Hustler and Mother Weekender are both pairs I’ve had in my closet for YEARS. Size up.
  • NOTE: In Kut from the Kloth or Wit & Wisdom, I suggest sizing down. They are very flattering and great budget denim options, but they stretch out more than my designer pairs.

The only pairs I plan to buy are the Madewell Wide Leg Drawstring Airy Denim in Faded Ivy and Open Edit Icon Straight Leg Trousers, since I don’t have anything like them in my closet.

Tops & Sweaters

Just like last year, I found the selection of tops & sweaters to be meh. I noticed a lot of the same styles as last year, but in a slightly different colorway. Because I don’t like having too many duplicates in my closet (unless it’s jeans or white tees), I don’t plan to buy much from this category. But here’s what stood out to me.

  • Paige Birch Polo Sweater – while you may not think of Paige for clothing other than denim, you should. I’ve gotten a few of their dresses and tops over the last few years and they fit incredibly well. They’re also timeless designs that are made well, so they’re worth the investment if you prefer to shop for items that you’ll wear for years.
  • Lauren Ralph Lauren Relaxed Fit Cotton Polo Sweater – The color, the shape, it’s all perfect. I’ll wear this on its own, over a crew neck white tee, over my shoulders in the spring or summer. It’s going to have a long, happy life in my closet, I can already tell.
  • Nordstrom Pima Cotton Relaxed T-Shirt – I’m a white tee connoisseur, and this one looks perfect
  • Frank & Eileen Monterey Funnel Neck Sweater – I own this in two other colorways and absolutely love it. It’s something I’ll have in my closet for years (I’ve already had one of mine for 3 years).
  • Nordstrom Cashmere Sweater Hoodie – They’ve sold this exact sweater (in varying colors) for three years… maybe more. It sells out fast because it’s really so good. I have a size small.
  • Barbour Silverdale Logo Sweatshirt – Something about this feels perfectly nostalgic. I’m buying it.
  • Lauren Ralph Lauren Classic Fit Denim Button-up Shirt – I’ve been looking for the perfect denim shirt for years, and I think this may be it. (I also like the Frank & Eileen Denim Wash shirt, but I wouldn’t get as much use out of it as the other.)
  • Frank & Eileen Relaxed Button-Up Shirt – I bought this during last year’s sale in a slightly different shade of blue. I wish I’d gotten a smaller size, and I don’t love the blue as much this year, but that’s personal preference.
  • Vernoica Beard Kearney Stripe Top is back again, but in a pine green colorway.

Dresses

The dresses this year are truly terrible, so there aren’t many in the widget above. The only three I’m considering:

Women’s Shoes

This year’s shoe selection is solid. Be sure to save the ones you want in your size to your wishlist so you can check out right away, since shoes sell out FAST. I’m typically a 6.5 or 7 and noted the sizes I own in everything.

If I still worked in corporate America, I’d be going nuts over this year’s shoe selection. Slingbacks. Block heels. Mid-height heels. Mules. Ballet flats. So many great work shoe options.

Below is what I currently own:

  • Sam Edelman Winfred Pointed Toe Slingback – I own these in French Sand in a 6.5. They’re easy to walk in, but the toe box is a little bit narrow for me, so expect a small breaking-in period. I like the Cafe Noir and Honey Bourbon in suede for something other than the nude.
  • Sam Edelman Finch Slingback Pointed Toe Pump – I love the little kitten heel on these. Understated and chic — and easy to walk in. I have a 6.5
  • Sam Edelman Brandy Pointed Toe Mule – Clearly, I love Sam Edelman, but it’s because they’re comfortable and cute, but not overly expensive. I have a 6.5 in these.
  • Marc Fisher Gretty Pointed Toe Pump – I owned these a few years ago and loved them. The only reason I got rid of them is that none of my shoes fit after my pregnancies.
  • On Cloudmonster – I own these in two colors. They’re my most comfortable walking shoes (see them on here), and they’re cute enough for athleisure.
  • Veja Campo Sneaker – I named these the best white sneakers for 4+ years for a reason. They’re comfortable, go with everything, and are cute but not overly trendy. People either love or hate how Vejas feel, but I’m in the love deeply camp since I’ve walked countless miles in them and take them on every vacation. I’m typically a 6.5/7 and wear these in a 37.
  • Nine West Gemmha Pointed Toe Pump – I owned these for every 15 years that I worked in banking, in just about every color they’ve ever sold.
  • Steve Madden Crescent Mule – I got these last year or the year before and wore them into the ground. They’re so comfortable and a great summer-to-fall transition shoe.

Boots and Booties are also impressive this year, but like the jeans, there are a lot of styles repeated from previous years, which is great if your style leans more classic

  • PAIGE Lyra Pointed Toe Chelsea boot – I have a previous year’s version of these, and the only difference this year is the slightly shorter shaft (which would be easier to style) and the cap toe detailing. They’re a pull-on style but very easy to get on and off. I sized up to a 7 in these.
  • Margaux Downtown Boot – This is another item that made my jaw drop; I love the brown leather that’s included in the sale this year. I own these in dark burgundy suede and they’re my most-worn booties, hands down. I own a size 7.
  • Dolce Vita Salma Bootie – I bought these last year in a taupe color and loved them, even though a western-leaning bootie is a little less my style than the others in the round-up. This year’s version is a bit sleeker, which makes them more versatile than mine.
  • Veronica Beard Laidie Kitten Heel Bootie – I get annoyed when I see bad reviews of these, but I love them SO much. They were a big splurge for me last year and I never regretted buying them. I wore them all winter with jeans, dresses and skirts paired with tights.
  • La Canadienne Wisdom Bootie – I own these in gray, and every winter I’m glad I have them, even though they are pricey. Black would be far more versatile, though. I have a size 7.

Purses

The purses this year are actually really good. There are some repeat styles from previous years’ sales.

  • Olga Berg Quinn Leather Clutch – this was the first nice clutch I ever bought and I’ve more than gotten my money’s worth out of it. It fits a lot (including my iPhone Pro Max) and goes with just about every elevated outfit.
  • Dolce Vita Amina Shoulder Bag – I got this last year and loved the shape and color. The metal closure is a little different this year, but I prefer it.
  • Madewell Shopper Leather Tote – I got this suede tote in navy last year and quickly bought the brown since I loved it so much. It fits my laptop and everything else I tote around in a day with two young boys.

The ones I may buy this year are the JW Pei Lucia Faux Suede Top Handle Bag (I love the olive color and I own this brand in other styles – the quality is great) and Allsaints Mini Ursa Suede Crossbody bag since I don’t have a good fall crossbody.

Baby & Kids Gear

There are always great baby and toddler finds in the sale, so if you’re expecting or have young kids, pay attention. The Nordstrom sale is one of the best times of the year to get a pricey stroller and/or car seat on sale.

I cannot believe the Doona Car Seat Stroller isn’t on sale this year! It always is, but it looks like They’re opting out this year.

I already own all of these:

  • Nuna Convertible Car Seat – we have 4 of these, two in my car and two in Tommy’s, since it transitions from the infant to toddler to forward-facing little kid phase. Although if the Nuna rotating car seat had been an option when we purchased our Nunas, I would probably do that.
  • UppaBaby Vista Stroller – Very pricey, but I promise it’s worth the investment if you have multiple kids. We’ve used this non-stop for six years. Here’s my full review of the UppaBaby Vista stroller.
  • Thule Jogging Stroller – if you want to run with your kids, snag this while it’s on sale. I like it better than the BOB Jogging Stroller – read my Thule stroller review here.
  • Nanit Bundle – We’ve used this baby monitor ever since we had Thomas and bought a second one for Charles. have one in each boy’s room and one in Boone. I love being able to check on them from anywhere and the nightlight feature is great for middle-of-the-night feeds. We use the travel kit all the time, but we never used all the breathing bands, so if you want just the monitor, it’s cheaper to buy the Nanit from Amazon.
  • Solly Wrap – my favorite carrier for the itty-bitty baby phase. Ahhh, I miss my tiny newborns! I’m wearing the Solly Wrap here.
  • Baby Bjorn Bouncer & Bjorn Mini Carrier – The bouncer is much better than the giant baby swings since it’s easy to move around, collapses flat and both boys liked it better than the electric swings. Once my boys moved out of the Solly wrap, I loved the Baby Bjorn Mini. The Solly became difficult once he got a little bigger, but the regular Bjorn carrier felt intense. I liked this from like 3-9 months and then I used the bigger Bjorn after that.
  • WAYB Pico Forward Facing Car Seat – We now have 4 of these (granted, I was gifted the first two by the brand, but then I bought more since we love them so much). We have two for when we travel to Utah to see my family, one for my nanny’s car and one for my in-laws’ cars. I wouldn’t want it as our main car seat but for travel or those driving the boys less often, it’s great because it’s small and portable.
    • If you plan to travel with it often, get the Pico Car Seat carry bag.
    • I’m getting the Pico Car Seat cupholder on sale since we always have long car rides in Utah.
  • Slumberpod – a must if you travel with little ones and have to share a space. It blacks out their crib so you can have the lights on and don’t need to stumble around them in the dark.

DON’T BUY

  • Cybex Libelle Lightweight Stroller – I have this, but I do NOT like it, despite the 5-star reviews. It feels so cheap and it never sat the boys up enough. This looks like a newer version, but I still wouldn’t risk it. If you need a travel stroller, get a Zoe Stroller instead.

Jackets & Coats

I could write a whole love letter to this section. The coats and jackets section is easily the best category in the entire sale. The styles included are timeless and some of my favorite brands. If you want to read more of my love letter to this sale section, read my Substack with my unfiltered thoughts while browsing.

I own similar styles to many of these, so I won’t go through them all, but what I do each fall/winter is take note of what outfits I struggle to pair with a coat/jacket and then shop accordingly. If you’re not sure, just make sure the basics are covered.

  • A cropped jacket is perfect for transitional weather
  • A classic trench coat works with everything – jeans, a dress, leggings and a tee. And in the South, trench weather is most of our winter anyway.
  • A warm winter coat – we only get a few truly cold weeks a year, but Boone and Utah get very cold, and since we spend quite a bit of time visiting family there, having a good one is worth it.
  • A dressy wool coat – this is the one you want to wear over holiday outfits when a warm, practical coat would ruin the look. Camel or black goes with everything you already own.
  • A casual jacket – a puffer or drawstring jacket is perfect for going from school drop-off to the gym to running errands.

Activewear

I’ve been underwhelmed by activewear the last few years, probably because I’ve found such good workout gear from Amazon, including Lululemon dupes. I included ones that I’ve liked in the past from Zella and a couple of Varley pieces since I love that brand. I know people love Zella, but I’d rather splurge on something nicer or go even more budget-friendly and shop at Amazon.

Underwear & Bras

This is always one of the best categories to stock up on during the sale – the NSale is when I force myself to replace my bras and underwear every year since it’s never fun to buy. I’m super picky about undergarments, and I really like the Natori bras and Chantelle thongs. They are comfortable and hold up well. I own all of the items above, so what you buy depends on the styles you like, but if I had to pick a #1 favorite, it’d be Natori Pure Luxe Underwire T-Shirt Bra.

Beauty

The usuals are on sale, so what to get depends on what you need (e.g., better hair tools?) and what you want. The beauty sets are a good way to try nicer brands at a discounted price. I own everything in the widget, so let me know if you have questions on any of it, but my top picks are listed below.

  • I LOVE my T3 hair dryer, curling iron and blow-out brush, and they’re all included in the sale.
  • Natura Bisse – I absolutely love the Natura Bisse Vitamin C serum and their Cocoon Skincare tinted moisurizer/eye cream, but it’s a pricey brand, so I’m grabbing it during the sale.
  • Olaplex – I use the No 7 Bonding Oil every single day. It transformed my hair, which got a lot frizzier after having kids.
  • Dermaflash – I am incapable of using the simple dermaplaning razors that influencers swear by. But I’ve never cut myself with the Dermaflash and I can’t stop touching my skin after I use it. So soft and smooth.

Men’s Clothing

Tommy never shops, and if he does, 99.9% of what he buys is from Duckhead or Holderness & Bourne. But Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is a great way to refresh his closet with a few items that Duckhead doesn’t carry or to add a little variety. I usually filter by his favorite brands to shop. He owns all of the items in the widget above.

Tips to maximize the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is competitive — things sell out fast, and popular sizes go quickly. These tips will help you shop strategically so you don’t miss out on the pieces you really want:

1. Join The Nordy Club (free)

If you haven’t already, join the Nordy Club. It’s free, earns you Nordstrom Notes (aka store credit), and gets you free shipping. This is separate from the Nordstrom Credit Card.

2. Become a Nordstrom Cardholder (if it makes sense for you)

Cardholders get early access, and how much you spend each year determines just how early. Even the basic card level lets you shop before the general public, which can make a huge difference. I only recommend the credit card if you’re a regular Nordstrom shopper and it’s a good fit for your financial picture.

3. Bookmark the Sale Preview + Build Your Wishlist Early

As soon as the preview drops on July 6, start saving your favorites in your wishlist — by size and color. This lets you check out quickly when your access window opens and also increases your chances of snagging restocks.

4. Download the Nordstrom App

The Nordstrom app is your best friend during the sale, especially for restocks. If you’ve wishlisted a sold-out item, the app can alert you if/when it comes back in stock.

5. Join My Email List and/or Follow me on ShopMy

If scrolling through 8,000+ items feels overwhelming, let me do the work for you. I’ll send emails about the best finds from the sale, along with my personal sizing and fit experience from my large try-on. Join my email list here.

I try on a LOT on the first day of the sale, so make sure to follow me on Instagram, where I’ll post the try-on videos.

6. Shop Your Staples First

Start with the categories that always go fast: denim, boots, coats, and beauty sets. These pieces often sell out on day one. They will restock most items with each new “access,” so don’t stress if you can’t shop in the first few days.

7. Don’t Wait to Build a Huge Cart

If you know you want something (especially big-ticket items like the Doona Stroller, which basically never goes on sale), check out immediately. Your cart doesn’t hold inventory, so waiting could mean losing out. Since Nordy Club members get free shipping, it’s smart to place multiple smaller orders.

8. Filter by Your Size

Don’t waste time scrolling through things that won’t work. Filtering by your size helps you shop smarter and faster.

9. Shop Online Early (Then Consider Store Pickup)

Shop as early as your access allows — and if you have a Nordstrom nearby, opt for curbside or in-store pickup to get your items faster and avoid shipping delays.

10. Don’t Overthink It

If you’re on the fence about something, just grab it. Nordstrom has easy, free returns — better to place the order than to regret missing it later.

FAQ

What time does the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale start?

Each shopping window opens online at 12:01am ET (9:01pm PT the night before) on your access date. Stores open at regular hours.

What will be on sale during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale isn’t just about fall coats and boots; it’s one of the only times you’ll find brand-new arrivals marked down this much. We’re talking 30 to 65% off across every category, from everyday staples to luxury splurges.

Fashion staples: Think denim from AG, Good American, and Mother, lightweight cardigans, elevated basics, and even designer pieces from Saint Laurent and Gucci.

Shoes & accessories: Leather bags from Staud and 3.1 Phillip Lim, classic Tory Burch flats, summer sandals, espadrilles, and trending styles like chunky boots and printed mules.

Beauty deals: They typically have limited-edition sets from ARMANI Beauty, Estée Lauder, and IT Cosmetics.

Home & kitchen: Le Creuset, Staub, Zwilling knives and more — often up to 50% off or higher.

Why is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale worth shopping?

The Anniversary Sale happens once a year, and it’s different than most sales that stores promote. When a store has a sale, it’s typically to get rid of last season’s clothes as the new ones come in, and generally after the sale, things will go on final sale to make sure they get out the door. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale discounts brand-new styles for the fall season. And once the sale is over, the prices go right back up to the normal retail value. It’s essentially a pre-season sale.

New styles on sale: Unlike traditional end-of-season sales, you’ll get huge discounts on new styles for the upcoming season. It’s a great way to shop for fall and winter items (which are often the priciest pieces in a wardrobe) at a major discount.

High-quality staples: Think cashmere, premium denim, boots, chic outerwear — investment pieces you’ll wear for years. Some of my favorite investment pieces have been purchased during the NSale. My style in my 40s definitely leans more timeless with investment pieces, so I prioritize items that are typically very pricey, like coats, boots, etc.

Beauty and home steals: Exclusive kits, luxe skin tools, and cozy home décor at great prices. If you have specific high-end beauty brands you love (like Augustis Bader, Charlotte Tilbury, or Armani Beauty), you’ll want to check the Beauty section. The NSale always has insane deals on beauty brands.

Should I become a Nordstrom cardholder for the Anniversary Sale?

Great question. It’s not a deal-breaker not to be a Nordstrom cardholder, especially since the sale does become public, but I’ve been a cardholder for years, and I love it. I will say that there are a lot of cardholders and there are lots of pieces that sell out during the Early Access Sale.

If you have your eyes on specific pieces AND you shop with Nordstrom regularly, it’s definitely something to consider (with my background in finance, I’m not one to casually recommend that you open a bunch of credit cards; in fact, this is the only brand-specific credit card I have). But if you’ve never shopped the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale before, maybe see what it’s like this year before opening a card.

Whether you get a card or not, be sure to create an account to join the Nordy Club, so you can earn points. Then, you can do a double point day whenever you place your biggest order to maximize the Nordy Cash you’ll earn. The Nordy Club is free and not a credit card – just a rewards program.

Do I need a promo code for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

Nope — Nordstrom Anniversary Sale prices are already marked down, so there’s no need (or way) to enter a promo code at checkout. The discounts are built right into the price of the items, online and in-store — just add to cart and go!

Will there be restocks during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

Yes — but don’t count on restocks for everything. What tends to restock most are basic or widely stocked Nordstrom-brand pieces. Popular and limited-release items (like designer goods) sometimes stay sold out. Still, returns from shoppers — especially on size-specific purchases — can show up throughout the sale.

Three smart tips:
1. Make sure your wishlist is created before the sale starts. You’ll only get restock alerts if something is on your wishlist, and you can’t add it to your wishlist once it’s out of stock.

2. Use the Nordstrom app notifications for automatic alerts on restocks.

3. Use the LTK app for restock alerts and price drops. Even after the sale ends, if something you’ve hearted in the LTK app goes on sale, you’ll get an alert. Here are more tips specific to the LTK app.

What is Nordstrom’s return policy during the Anniversary Sale?

One of the reasons that I’m so loyal to Nordstrom is their return policy. They send a free shipping return label in every one of their packages so that you can repack your items and pop them back into the mail easily. No questions asked. It’s almost better than shopping in person because there’s no pressure and you can try your items on in your own home (although I DO really want a Nordstrom location in Winston-Salem)!!

So, the return policy alone is enough of a reason to shop at Nordstrom.  This sale is on new pieces, and nothing is final sale, so you can return anything you don’t love.

Keep An Eye Out for More

Alright, I think that covers it! If you have any questions about anything you’re eyeing, let me know!

I cover the sale extensively each year (and shop in person on the first day of the sale, documenting every single thing I try on), so make sure you follow me on Instagram, join my email list, and follow me on ShopMy and LTK so you know what’s worth buying, when there are restocks, and how to style what you end up buying.
