I’m so happy that it’s finally fall! Winston-Salem has cooled off quite a bit, and now our mornings are the perfect crispy chilliness. I love fall for so many reasons –– crunchy leaves on my runs, the leaves changing colors, and cooler temps, just to name a few. It’s also been so nice to transition into fall clothes after a long hot summer of sundresses and shorts.

One of the most asked for shopping requests I get these days (I ask for shopping requests once a week or so on Instagram), is for affordable fall dresses. And I understand why! I find that I’d rather buy a dress than any other article of clothing (well, maybe tied with shoes). I love that they’re an entire outfit on their own, most are versatile enough to be worn with multiple styles of shoes, and they’re appropriate for almost anything you might have on your daily calendar. (If you want to splurge a little on dresses, I LOVE Tuckernuck’s dress selection right now.)

This post has a mix of new dresses that I’ve yet to order and things I already own and love. If I don’t have a photo in it yet, it’s because it hasn’t arrived in the mail. That means I can’t speak to every single dress in terms of fit or quality, but I’m only including finds with good reviews. Okay, let’s get to the dresses!

If you’d rather shop on my Amazon Storefront, you’ll also find all of these dresses linked in my Fall Dresses idea list.

My Favorite Affordable Fall Dresses

Chambray Denim Shirt Dress

First up is this denim shirt dress with little ruffle sleeve details. I was shocked by the quality and fit when this arrived. I have styled it a handful of ways, and it literally works with ALL of them: sneakers, loafers, clogs, boots, you name it. It has already become one of my most worn dresses this fall. I love that it’s not too hot for lingering summer heat, but also the perfect piece to style with a sweater. I have this in an XS and I’m 5’1″ for reference.

Pink Denim Romper

This pink denim-y romper is one of my favorite purchases of the whole year. I’ve worn it at least once a week since I’ve gotten it because it’s SO practical. It’s cute for errands, lunch out, or preschool drop-off. I love that it has adjustable side buttons so that you can make the waist a little looser if necessary. It fits my 21 week bump too! It has pockets and the material is SUPER soft, especially for denim.

I have a size small and it has a relaxed fit, but runs true to size.

Oversized Sleeve Sweater Dress

A sweater dress (and especially one with a turtleneck) is a fall and winter essential. I have a sweater dress that looks JUST like this from Revolve that costs about 4x more, and I swear this is just as good. I love the navy since it can be worn with so many accessories and shoe options, but it comes in a bunch of other colors. I’m 5’1″ with a super petite frame for reference. I have a size small, and I’m keeping it, even though the sleeves are long. I will wear this with boots, booties, loafers, and even sneakers.

Yasmin Rib Midi Sweater Tank Dress

I got this tank sweater dress last year and wore it ALL fall long. It pairs perfectly with a denim jacket, but is also cute on it’s own (or with a blazer). I got both the black and the brown last summer and ended up only keeping the brown. And this summer I decided I needed the black too! It’s SO comfortable and a practical option for the office but also regular mom-life, especially paired with sneakers. The blazer I have it styled with below is also from Amazon. I wish I had this outfit while I was working in corporate America! I have an XS.

It’s also worth noting that the material is a perfect thickness. Not see-through at all!

Squareneck Ribbed Maxi Bodycon Sweater Dress

I’m devastated that this black maxi dress is too long on me. It’s SO gorgeous! The neckline is super feminine and flattering, the fit is perfect, and it’s incredible soft. I think this would also work perfectly as a maternity dress because it’s super stretchy! I’m wearing a size small below, and I’m 5’1″ for reference.

Green Collared Button Down Dress

This collared button down dress is another purchase from this summer that I’ll be able to wear way into fall. The color is perfect and the fit is so unique. I truly LOVE everything about it from the collar to the rounded drop of the skirt, and the fact that it has pockets is an added bonus. While you may get a little chilly in this dress on its own, you could easily layer a denim jacket on top or bring a cardigan to throw on over your shoulders. This dress comes in 10 other colors and fits true to size. I styled it below with Madewell lugsole loafers, but you could also wear sneakers.

Long Sleeve V Neck Dress

This long sleeve v-neck button sweater dress is a GREAT budget option for a really good looking sweater dress. I didn’t love the bold print options, so I ordered the solid black and I LOVE it. The buttons have a super fun detail and the fit is relaxed enough for a growing bump. I got a size small and I’d say it runs true to size.

Fall Knit Long Sweater Dress

This long knit sweater dress looks so high-end! I love the v neckline, the ribbed skirt, and the removable tie for the waist. The bell sleeves make it just a touch more feminine, which is another thing I love. I would definitely wear this to church or for a date with Tommy. The reviews all sound super positive too!

I’m ordering the apricot color and I hope I’ll be able to wear it with my bump! I’m planning to nix the tie for now since it would have to sit super high above my belly.

Oversized Collar Sweater Dress

I’m eyeing this sweater dress with the oversized collar because it looks SO comfortable and easy to style. I love the big button details on the collar, the fact that it has long sleeves, and the color options. Again, the reviews sound good, and I think this would work perfectly with a bump! I’d wear it with sneakers, clogs, boots, and booties.

Long Sleeve Square Neck Smocked Mini Dress

If you’re looking for a cute fall dress that’s not a sweater dress, this long sleeve square neck mini is just the thing. I love the floral pattern and colors, the tiered skirt, and long sleeves. Sometimes dresses like this can feel a little basic, like something you’d find in every random boutique, but you have to imagine how you’d style it! With my hair done, a natural makeup look, and heeled booties, this would be such a winner!

Mock Neck Pullover Sweater Dress

I love love LOVE this mock neck pullover sweater dress. This one is more fitted than the dress above, which is a great option for something slightly dressier. The reviews say the quality is great and not see through. I like the bell sleeves too.

Colorblock Long Fitted Sweater Dress

Here’s another example of a dress that looks really high-end from Amazon. At first glance, you’d think this colorblock long fitted dress could be very hit or miss, especially since that color-blocking needs to be in a straight line to look right, but the reviews make this sound like a such a winner! I’m going to order the white/cream color combination since I think it looks the most classic.

V-Neck Ruffle Floral Boho Maxi Dress

This floral dress from Amazon is a little bore boho than something I’d typically go for, but I saw another influencer share it on LTK and absolutely loved it. It would actually make a great option for fall family photos too! The red and pink color combo is fun for early fall, and the short sleeves will work well for at least another month here in North Carolina.
