Sneakers have been a wardrobe staple for a few years now, but in 2025, sneakers will reign supreme (thank goodness, right?). The trends this year are pointing to lots of sneaker-wearing, and as a busy mom of two boys, I’m thrilled to know my most comfortable shoes are also the “it” shoe this year.
The main sneaker trends I’m noticing this year are slim soles, animal print, silver, and “court” styles. Whether you’re into minimal leather kicks or bold, retro silhouettes, there’s a sneaker trend for you right now. I absolutely love Veja sneakers for their mix of sustainability, timeless style, and comfort, but there are so many great options to explore. Let’s get into the trendy sneakers I’m loving right now.
The #1 sneaker trend I’ve been watching is the extra-slim sole look since this isn’t my favorite look, but I was certain there had to be one I like! These sneakers have a super sleek, low-profile look and feel polished (but still casual). You can style them with everything from straight-leg jeans to dresses and even tailored trousers. Brands like Sam Edelman, Adidas, Loewe, and Larroude have great options. I love this Zaria Lace Up Sneaker for an affordable option. The Irma Lace Up Sneaker has a fun lace situation. If money were no object, I’d order the Flow Suede Retro Runner Sneakers, but Dolce Vita does make a good dupe. Last year, I discovered Tretorn sneakers, which have been such a great shoe in my closet–they’re one of my favorite styles of sneakers to wear with dresses.
I’m not exactly sure how I feel about animal prints coming back in full force, but I absolutely loved leopard print flats and heels when they were on trend a decade ago, so I’m certain I’ll get into it with sneakers. Whether you go for a full-on leopard print sneaker or just a touch of print on the heel or tongue like these New Balance 327s, animal print instantly elevates even the most basic outfits (and basic outfits are the key! Let the shoes do the talking and stick to simple basics for the rest of your look). Dolce Vita has a pair of leopard print sneakers for around $150, Golden Goose has a cute animal print option, and I like the leopard logo on these New Balance sneakers for a more subtle nod to the trend.
Classic tennis-inspired sneakers are a must-have this year. If you’ve been eyeing Adidas Sambas or Gazelles, now’s the time to grab a pair—these iconic styles have been dominating street style and Instagram feeds. Their suede and leather combo feels vintage yet modern, making them a versatile addition to any closet.
Looking for a more understated version? The Veja Esplar and Campo sneakers offer a court-inspired silhouette with a slightly more polished feel. They pair perfectly with wide-leg trousers, slip skirts, and even casual dresses.
If comfort is your top priority, you’ll be happy to hear that cushioned sneakers are still trending. Think Hoka, New Balance, and On Running—all known for their ultra-supportive soles. These sneakers are perfect for long days on your feet, whether you’re running errands, traveling, or just need something reliable for your daily walks. I don’t usually wear these style of shoes with jeans or dresses, but opt for my sporty sneakers when I’m wearing athleisure.
For a stylish take, look for neutral tones or monochrome colorways—they’ll blend seamlessly into your wardrobe without feeling overly sporty. And if you love an all-day sneaker that looks as good as it feels, the Veja Dekkan or Condor offers a mix of function and fashion.
If you gravitate toward classic, white sneakers like I do, lucky us because minimalist footwear is still very much in. Veja Recifes are my go-to for this trend, thanks to their sleek design and sustainable materials. Their simple yet sophisticated look makes them easy to wear with anything from jeans to structured suits.
Other brands like Reebok Club C, Nike Killshot, and Loewe’s Flow Runner also deliver that timeless, pared-down aesthetic. A great pair of minimal sneakers is an investment that will stay in your wardrobe for years.
On the other end of the spectrum, bold, statement sneakers are having a resurgence. Think chunky soles, vibrant colors, and exaggerated silhouettes. If you love standing out, check out Adida’s Barreda Decode, Nike’s latest Air Max drops, and New Balance’s bright retro sneakers.
These shoes add personality to even the simplest outfits—try pairing them with leggings (see my favorite leggings in this post), oversized blazers, or sporty dresses for an effortlessly cool look.
The biggest sneaker trend right now? Retro runners. Vintage-inspired sneakers with suede detailing, gum soles, and throwback color schemes are everywhere. Adidas Gazelles and New Balance 327s are leading the charge, bringing that nostalgic ’80s and ’90s feel back into our closets.
For a high-fashion take, brands like Loewe and Tory Burch have reimagined the retro runner with luxe materials and modern details. These sneakers look great with cropped jeans, joggers, or even tailored pieces for a stylish contrast.
No matter your style, there’s a trendy sneaker out there for you. Whether you love minimal leather sneakers like Veja, bold retro runners, or cushioned everyday kicks, investing in the right pair can elevate your wardrobe while keeping you comfortable.
