When it comes to finding the perfect pair of denim shorts that fit well in the waist, hips, thighs, and butt, Abercrombie shorts are hard to beat. While I’ve owned pricier pairs of denim (including the Agolde denim shorts which have a cult following), I still think Abercrombie denim shorts are the best. They have flattering, comfortable styles that are perfect for moms with longer inseams. I’ll get into my top pick and whether to size up or down below.

The Best Abercrombie Denim Shorts

The High Rise Loose Short is my top pick. I always size up in Abercrombie denim shorts. I’m typically a 26, but a 27 fits best here. It’s also my top pick in my roundup of the best jean shorts for moms, but I’ll break down the rest of the Abercrombie styles, sizing and fit below.

Abercrombie High Rise Loose Shorts

After trying multiple styles, my top pick is the High Rise Loose Short. Last year, the High-Rise Dad Short was my first pick, and it still comes close, but I’m into the looser, more casual fit of the Loose Short right now.

The Loose Short has a relaxed, almost slouchy fit through the leg, but it still holds its shape instead of looking stretched out. The inseam is 6″, which is the perfect mom short length in my opinion. I sized up to a 27 from my usual 26, which is pretty standard for me in Abercrombie denim.

Abercrombie also makes this style in the Curve Love fit, which adds two inches through the hip and thigh. If you have more muscular thighs or have a problem with waist gap, curve love is a good solution. The video below shows me wearing them so you can see how they move and look on a real person.

Abercrombie High Rise Dad Shorts

I’ve tried plenty of options, including Madewell (I get into that comparison in my Madewell shorts review), but the Dad Short is still a close second for me on comfort and fit. The 5″ inseam feels right for how these fit through the leg, more fitted through the thigh than the Loose Short’s relaxed cut. I have these in a 27, a size up from my usual, and I like that they run a little loose. These also come in a Curve Love fit if you need extra room through the hip and thigh. I got them in the white wash and love how versatile they are to style.

Mid-Rise A-Line Short

I was really surprised by how much I loved the Mid-Rise A-Line shorts. The inseam is a tad shorter, and the style I got has distressing on the hem, but I still feel like they have an appropriate, relaxed look for a mom.

They also have other options like bermuda-length “jorts” and low-rise styles, but these aren’t really my cup of tea.

Is it better to size up or down in Abercrombie jeans?

For Abercrombie shorts and jeans, I always size up. I’m typically a 26, but I’m a 27 in almost everything from them. Their denim runs snug through the waist and butt, so sizing up gives more room without losing the fit. If you don’t want to size up but need more room through the hip and thigh, the Curve Love fit is worth trying instead. My nanny wears the Curve Love fit (they look so good on her!), and the photos below show how different these look on us, since we both have different body types.

If you’re on the fence, size up. You’ll still get the shape you want, just with more room to move, sit, and chase kids around without feeling restricted.
