July 4th is my second favorite holiday, right behind Valentine’s Day. I have always been patriotic, and having had multiple family members serve our country, I feel a great sense of pride to be an American. We don’t have any solidified traditions with Thomas for the 4th of July yet, but I think we’ll be up in Boone to watch the fireworks and spend time with family (did you know the 4th is on a Tuesday this year?).

While we don’t have a big party to attend or any true 4th of July “occasions”, I will be dressing festively. If you follow me on LTK, you know that I wear my beloved American Flag sweater from Tuckernuck all year long (and I’ll probably wear it on the 4th this year since we’ll be in the mountains), but today I wanted to share a handful of other fourth of July outfits in case you’re looking for something festive for yourself.

Since there are lots of different events that come to mind for Independence Day, I’m including some dressier options and some casual options. I’m publishing this post in June, so I hope you find something fun to wear next month, and if you have any fun 4th of July traditions, please share!

Cute 4th of July Outfits that are classic & festive

Dresses for the 4th of July

Like I mentioned above, I’m planning to wear my Tuckernuck sweater for the 4th this year, but I haven’t decided if I’m going to wear it as a top with my favorite denim shorts, or if I’m going to drape it over my shoulders and pair with a dress. Here are my favorite USA inspired dresses. I’ll likely let the weather dictate that!

Amazon Red Smocked Maxi Dress

This affordable maxi dress is one of the best dresses I’ve found this summer! I’m wearing it in the cover photos and pictures above and if it’s hot in Boone on the 4th, it’s likely what I’ll wear. It’s under $50, fits true to size, and is also pregnancy and nursing friendly if that’s the stage of life you’re in. I have a size XS. See on me in this LTK post.

Tahoe Dress in Blue Chambray

This blue and white stripe mini dress from Revolve is another subtle dress idea for the 4th that’s still festive, but not over the top! Revolve is hit or miss for me, but this dress was a solid find. It runs small, so I sized up to a small versus my regular size XS. Pair with neutral slides or a pair of heels. See this dress on me in this LTK post.

Navy Knit Striped Frenchie Dress

This navy striped mini dress from Tuckernuck is one of my favorite things in my closet at the moment. I’ve always been a fan of stripes, and this summer they are trending in full force. I have this dress in an XS and it’s made with a super comfortable knit material. I wear this most often with sneakers as seen here.

Amazon Blue and White Stripe Smocked Maxi

This is another affordable find that has shocked me. The quality is VERY good considering the price, and it fits true to size. I love that the smocking is wider and longer than most maxis I own, and the bonus of pockets makes this a true winner. I have a size small.

Chambray Callahan Shirt Dress

I ordered this shirt dress from Tuckernuck earlier this spring and have worn it over 15 times I think. It’s such a practical shape and style, and can easily be dressed down with flats for daytime or up for night with chunky heels like these from Sam Edelman. I love the super lightweight material for summer (but you may want a little skirt slip underneath because the dress is thin!), and that the the sleeves can be rolled up rather easily. I have a size XS in this dress, and you can add your email to the form on their website to be notified when your size is restocked.

White Annie Smocked Dress

Yet another Tuckernuck favorite! This smocked puff sleeve mini dress is actually super comfortable and easy to wear all day. I’m very petite (5’1″), so I worried that the sleeves would overwhelm my frame, but they’re actually not too large. I wear this dress with flat sandals, but you could easily dress it up with heels for a dinner party. Since it’s solid white, this dress is the perfect option to dress up with fun USA accessories – ideas below! See how it fits me in this quick video.

Blue Stripe Ronan Dress

I found this mini dress while sourcing things for this post, and now I think I need it for myself! The light blue stripes in combination with the thick black trim on the neckline feels polished and classic. And I also appreciate that it’s sleeveless because the South is just SO DANG HOT in July.

Walmart Mini Shirt Dress with Long Sleeves

Yes, you read that correctly. I am SHOCKED by how good Walmart’s fashion selection is lately. I ordered this dress in white, but it also comes in a super subtle blue stripe pattern.

Walmart Lace Up Mini Shift Dress with Short Sleeve

Told ya Walmart was good! This mini dress looks like it could be straight off of Vineyard Vines’ website!

White Denim Overalls

I guess overalls don’t technically count as a dress, but since they are a one-piece outfit, it feels like the appropriate category. Overalls feel like such a classic look for the 4th of July, don’t you think? I’ve tried a few different pairs on over the years that I haven’t loved, but I think the key was that they were not white! I have this pair on my wishlist. You could pair these with a striped tee, or any solid tee in red or blue. So cute!

Cute 4th of July Tops & Blouses

When thinking about tops to wear for the 4th, I like to go for classic and tasteful sweaters or blouses that I can wear any day of the summer, rather than the USA graphic tees that we see all over the market this time of year. All of the tops below will work perfectly with your favorite pair of jean shorts. I love this pair by Agolde best, followed by this lighter wash from J.Crew.

Tuckernuck Americana Sweater

Like I mentioned in the intro, this sweater is probably what I’ll be wearing on the 4th this year. It’s oversized, loose and lightweight knit, and SO classic. I wear it with jeans and these Agolde denim shorts year round, and I’ll likely end up wearing it with shorts on the 4th. I have the smallest size they make in the sweater and it’s still big, so keep that in mind when shopping. They also made an adorable cropped version this year that I’m really trying to justify buying. See it on me in this video.

Striped Notched V Neck Ruffle Blouse

This striped top is from Amazon and I own it in green. The material is 100% polyester, so it’s not as soft as cotton, but it has a nice structure and an almost cooling effect when you put it on. Since this top comes in blue and white stripes, it would be the perfect affordable top for the 4th. I have a size small.

Banana Republic Factory Forever Sweater

This thin knit sweater is a GREAT option for summer. It’s thin, and I’ve worn it a handful of times when our AC is blasting inside. The material is SO soft and not itchy. I own the light blue and it’d be a perfect top for a cooler evening on the 4th. The best part? It’s under $30! See it on me in this photo.

Blue and White Colorblock Button Down

This is another affordable top that would be super cute for the 4th of July. I have a size small, but it fits much bigger than my other button downs. I usually tuck the ends into my pants or shorts. See on me in this LTK post.

White Openwork Halter Top

I don’t personally go for haltered style tops, but this one is making me re-think that. While I do like the matching skirt, I think it’d be cuter paired with jean shorts (white or blue!). The price is SO good!

Accessories for the 4th of July

Of course you don’t need to order anything new for the 4th of July, but if you’re going to wear a basic white t-shirt and denim shorts you already own, these accessories would be a fun way to make your outfit a little more festive. I’m also including a few pairs of USA themed PJs since I own them and I think they’re a fun, practical summer purchase.

Mignonne Gavigan Micro Madeline Earrings

I have a large pair of Madeline earrings from Mignonne Gavigan that I wear when I’m really dressing up. They’re SO fun and such a statement. But this pair of red, white, and blue minis would be a special pop for the 4th of July. Take 15% off with code TERILYN15. I also love this pair where the colors are more blended.

Navy and White Striped Jillian Earrings

These are another fun pair of statement earrings that would be perfect for the 4th of July. I like that these could be worn well after the holiday as well.

Liberty Stripe LAKE Pajamas

LAKE Pajamas launched their Americana collection a week or so ago and it’s full of festive jammies. I own more LAKE pajama sets than I’d like to admit. They’re the softest PJs I’ve ever had, and I love how cute, flattering and classic they are. I walk through the sizing details in this full LAKE review, but in short, size up if you’re getting a Pima Set, and order your true size for DreamKnit. This Liberty Stripe pattern makes me SO happy. It also comes in a short sleeve style.

They also make adorable matching sets for kiddos.

Blue Linen Pants

After publishing this post, I decided to come back and add these linen pants in because they would make another easy 4th of July outfit. I love that they are lightweight and breezy, look great with tanks, and can be worn all summer – irregardless of the 4th. I wear them most often with white tanks. Linen pants also just feel like the perfect summer vibe.

I hope you have a great fourth of July celebration this year and get to spend it with the people you love.
