Last week, I turned 30. John put together a casual gathering of friends on the Sunday before my birthday, complete with a giant card from some fun (and funny!) friends.

After the get together, John and I had an awesome thai and sushi dinner at Downtown Thai afterwards. (WS folks, I think this is my new favorite sushi place; it rivals Mizu! Their pho wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was decent. Then again, the best I’ve had was in Seattle and I’ve never had pho anywhere else in WS.)

On my actual birthday, it was basically my perfect day (if it had to be a day where I went to work and wasn’t on an exotic vacation. 🙂 ) We started the day with a 9 mile interval run (details here). After work, we got a couples’ massage, ordered take-out sushi (from Ichiban) and dined on my deck, had an AWESOME bottle of wine, enjoyed some So Delicious coconut milk cookie dough ice cream, and took Maizey on a nice evening walk.

John spoiled me rotten with an iPad Air (am I the last person to get one?!). And Maizey got me a mini (pink!!) food processor. 🙂 My 30th bday present to myself was the trip to St. John earlier in the year, but I may still buy myself a belated gift. I really want a ring that doesn’t turn my finger green (seriously, Teri, be an adult). I also went ahead and chopped about 4″ off my hair to celebrate a new decade. It felt right. (It’s shorter than it looks in this picture…)

Thanks for all the birthday wishes on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I’m so grateful to have so many friends, both in real life and ones that just feel like we’re real-life friends despite having never met. 🙂 I’m truly grateful for the community of friends I have through social media!

    1. Love the hair and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Your actual birthday sounded amazing – just the way I’d want to spend the day as well. I love Syrah and will have to try that next time I’m in a celebrating mood!

    2. Aww Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a great one and here’s to a great year ahead!!! I love your hair! I have been wanting to go shorter with mine but am nervous!

    3. i knew we were close in age but didn’t realize we were just a 3 months apart! you look fantastic! your hair is adorable, as always. makin’ me want to chop off a couple inches too. you are going to looooooove your ipad. i bring mine to bed with me each night to either read (sign up for oyster!!!), do crosswords, play on instagram, watch netflix, or listen to bedtime music on spotify (dork). it’s so great and so much lighter than a laptop. let me know if you need app suggestions!

    4. First, I’m SO glad you had a wonderful birthday and second I love that we are living parallel lives from our twin dogs to our twin birthdays to both chopping our hair last week 🙂 So glad you had an amazing birthday – very well deserved!

    5. Happy birthday! I’m a year plus into my 30s and love it so far! Heart your hair and your necklace in that first pic!

    6. Happy birthday! Love the new hair cut! How do you do the subtle curls in the picture of the cut you posted?

      • Hi Rachel, my stylist actually did those curls and I haven’t been able to recreate it yet! She used a round brush and as she was pulling the hair off the brush, she twisted it. I’m not that coordinated and I even consider myself good with a round brush!

    7. Happy Belated Birthday! Sounds like you did have a perfect day – good food, good company and long walk with the dogs = heaven 🙂

Can you send pictures of the side & back of your hair? I’m growing out a short bob and your new ‘do (which looks great!) would be a perfect in between for me I think.

    8. Ah, your birthday dinners look INCREDIBLE! It’s been far too long since I had good sushi. I occasionally pick up market sushi, which is good, but not like having it in a restaurant. It sounds like the perfect way to spend a birthday. As always, you’re my hair idol. 🙂 Happy belated birthday!! Thirty looks great on you!

    9. My birthday was last week too! Happy belated birthday to you! We must be birthday twins because I had thai food on my birthday, am planning a big hair change and my husband gave me a certificate he made with the promise of an iPad Air 2 (which I’m hoping comes out next month) – so no, you aren’t the last person to get one!! 🙂
