While it’s only October, time is flying, and Thanksgiving will be here soon. I like to look nice and put together on Thanksgiving, but I’m also wrangling kids and cooking all day, so comfort is also a top priority. So today, I’m sharing my favorite Thanksgiving outfit ideas for busy moms who want to look polished but practical for their Thanksgiving plans.
I ordered this Winetasting Crepe Callahan Shirt Dress a few weeks ago and it’s even better in person than it looks online. The burgundy color is perfect for fall, the material is a polyester crepe that feels heavy enough for the cooler weather, and the long sleeves can easily be cuffed in the kitchen. Plus, the fit is relaxed, so you don’t have to worry about feeling like a stuffed turkey after your big meal.
I often wear this dress with ballet flats since booties aren’t as practical these days for a busy mom. However, this dress looks cute with boots or booties – the ankle booties pictured below are from Margeaux, and I have these tall boots from Larroude and can vouch for their comfort.
This dress is easy to dress up or down, and some gold jewelry would take it to the next level. I wear a size XS in this because the fit is very relaxed. This would be great for family photos as well – more family photo dress ideas here.
I have a full blog post with my must have dresses for cold weather linked here if you want more ideas.
The Kick Out Crop Jeans in Driftwood Brown from Madewell are such a fun brown shade, and as soon as I put them on, I knew they’d be great for Thanksgiving. I love wearing darker tones like this in the cooler weather. I styled these jeans with a black sleeveless sweater, but you could do any black top. Black and brown aren’t always styled together because people think they clash – I disagree. I wear these jeans with brown loafers and a thin black belt. See the photo below for inspiration.
You could also wear a cream-colored sweater!
If you want to wear something warmer than the red dress above, but you love the idea of a dress for Thanksgiving, this Hazelwood Vivianne Dress from Tuckernuck is just the thing. I’ve owned the black colorway for years, and I bought the Hazelwood color a few weeks ago. You just can’t beat the quality and comfortable fit. It’s a relaxed shift style with a chic mock neck. It’s not itchy either. I paired this dress with the Blair Ballet Flat from Larroude, but it would also be really cute with booties or tall boots.
I wear a size XS in this style – and it comes in olive green and winter white as well.
There’s nothing quite as timeless as a white button-down top. While you can style it a million different ways, I tend to stick to a classic jeans + button-down look most often. The best white button down I’ve found recently is the Easy Y-Neck Button-Up Shirt from Madewell. It’s the perfect hip length making it tuckable and also chic worn un-tucked. The fit is very relaxed, and it looks great tucked into dark-wash jeans.
While I’m wearing booties in the photo below, I actually think this outfit would look best with a shoe that shows more of my foot – like the Blair Ballet Flat from Larroude.
This striped cardigan sweater from Amazon is affordable, but you’d never know that by looking at it (or feeling it). The quality is superb. I would never invest in the lookalike designer sweaters when this is just as great. It looks perfect with jeans, and you’ll be comfortable and cute all day long. These jeans are the Madewell Kick Out Crop.
The tan flats I’m wearing in the photos below are the Landon Pointed Toe Ballet Flat by Stuart Weitzman. They’re pricey but so worth it for the comfort and quality.
While this Julia Dress from Shop Livro is not fully stocked at the moment, I wanted to include it since you can sign up for restock notifications. When I first got the Julia Dress, I immediately thought this was a perfect Thanksgiving dress in the South. The pattern, colors, and length all feel perfectly appropriate for Turkey Day. I wear an XS in this brand. I like this dress best with platform heels.
I found this Chestnut Brown Selena Blouse on Tuckernuck and thought it would be perfect paired with jeans and booties (or Mary Jane flats!) for Thanksgiving. I love how the model styled it with a patterned mini skirt, but practically, I think jeans will work best for all that’s required in the kitchen. Since the shirt is relaxed, it will look best tucked in.

Cute outfits! Our Thanksgiving is very casual, which I love! Jeans and sweaters. Woop! For clothes, I don’t even own an iron at the moment. Though I should probably get one. I try to buy clothes that don’t need ironing. I’ll take things to the dry cleaner once in awhile (most of my clothes are machine wash though). And I do have a steamer that I love! 🙂
We JUST bought an iron…but so far Tommy has been the only one to use it! 😉
Hi! Reviews of that vest say it runs small, did you size up in it?
I got my usual XS. It’s a little small but not horrible. I think a S would have looked a little too big on me, but I’m very petite! (5’1″)
Hi Teri! You look so great – I love your style so much! Every outfit is perfect. I’m so happy for you and Tommy ??. Happy Thanksgiving!
I already have the Callahan, Selena blouse and the kick crop jeans. Love them. Will try these color ways you suggested. Keep the clothing recs coming. You make shopping easy for a busy mom!
