When it comes to remote work style, it really depends on the job. Back when I worked in finance, I dressed up a little more—even from home. These days, as someone who works for herself, has two young kids and creates content from home – but also goes into my team office most days – my wardrobe leans business casual with a strong emphasis on comfort and polish.
If you’re on camera in Zoom meetings often, that will factor into what you wear. But no matter your setup, getting ready in the morning matters. It signals the start of your day, boosts productivity, and makes it easier to transition from “home mode” to “work mode.”
Here are ten of my go-to work-from-home outfits that strike the balance between comfortable and camera-ready. Think soft fabrics, easy pieces, and elevated basics you can move in (and Zoom in). Or, if you want full-on loungewear, I’ve got ideas for that, too.
This is obviously a no-brainer, but wearing jeans instead of leggings makes all the difference in productivity for me. I pair classic jeans with a puff-sleeve blouse or linen button-down.
Pro tip: Stretch denim makes this combo extra wearable. See my roundup of the best jeans here.
This combo feels effortless but styled. The volume on the bottom of wide-leg jeans balances a slim-fit tank or body-skimming tee on top. Great for standing meetings or school pickups right after.
Pro tip: Add gold jewelry or a simple belt to pull it together. And here are tips for what shoes to wear with wide leg jeans if you struggle with that.
Shirt dresses are a WFH staple since they’re put together but don’t cling. I love my Frank & Eileen shirt dress in the summer and fall.
Pro tip: Add a wide belt for shape or throw on a cardigan for cooler mornings.
Whether it’s a linen set, like these linen shorts + button-down vest, or an elevated, structured travel set, matching sets create instant outfit energy. They look intentional even when they sometimes feel like loungewear.
Pro tip: Choose sets in neutral tones for easy accessorizing.
A flowy skirt and a tucked-in tee is the comfiest way to look polished. Add any of these white sneakers or neutral sandals, and you’re good to go. If you want to take it up just a bit, wear loafers instead.
Pro tip: Look for skirts with elastic waists for that WFH comfort factor.
One and done! I love a soft cotton or linen jumpsuit for days when I don’t want to think about what matches what.
Pro tip: Add earrings (I love these earrings from Susan Shaw) and slides and it’ll feel more styled than sweats, but just as easy.
Linen pants are an everyday go-to in spring and summer. I leave the button down half-tucked and wear it open over a ribbed tank if I’m heading out.
Seriously — throw it over leggings, tuck it into joggers, pair it with trousers. A crisp button-down upgrades everything. I have several timeless ways to style a button-down in this post if you need more ideas.
Pro tip: Keep one “Zoom-ready” button-down on a hook in your office for last-minute meetings.
Frank & Eileen carries some of my absolute favorite button-downs and other timeless basics (I have a full Frank & Eileen review here)
If you’re working from home and tired of choosing between feeling put-together or staying comfy, tailored shorts and a polished top is a perfect solution. Add a simple slide or a pair of small gold hoops, and you’ve got an effortless, chic look that means business without ever leaving your living room.
Pro tip: Go for high-waisted shorts with structure. It instantly elongates the legs and pairs perfectly with a tucked-in blouse or lightweight sweater.
If I’m having a low-energy day or working late, I’ll reach for elevated loungewear. Think matching ribbed sets (I love this ribbed shirt and wide-leg pant set from Nuuds, cashmere joggers, or buttery soft knit pullovers).
Pro tip: Avoid old sweats unless you want to feel like you’re still in bed.
It depends on your industry, your camera schedule, and your personal preference, but aim for a balance of comfort and polish. Clothes you can move in but still make you feel ready for the day. Business casual is a great baseline– you’ll be more productive when you feel put together.
Go one notch more polished than you think you’ll need—especially if you’re meeting anyone on video. A white button-down, clean jeans, and simple jewelry never fail and make a great first impression. Skip the hoodie until you know the culture.
Your work-from-home style doesn’t have to be fussy or formal. Build a small, versatile wardrobe of cozy pieces with structure: button-downs, easy dresses, linen pants, and matching sets. These outfits help you feel professional, comfortable, and motivated—even if your desk is ten feet from the couch.
