Fashion in 2026 feels like a deep exhale.
After some 2025’s trends that had unique takes (like balloon sleeves and east to west bags), and pieces like barrel jeans that felt more trendy than flattering, it feels like this year’s style is shifting back to classy and timeless, with a few pops of fun in there. Since that’s honestly what I’ve always leaned towards, I’m here for it.
I’m happy to report the soft, modern preppy style is sticking around from last year. Things like stripes, polo tops, heritage touches, and classic silhouettes are still on trend, but are also timeless. I think you’ll be excited that these trends for 2026 are wearable for the everyday woman that might be balancing work or mom-life and not walking the runway. Let’s get into them.
At the bottom, I’ll also share what else is on trend that I’m skipping and what’s out (good riddance).
Denim is calming down. Slim, straight jeans like these that sit closer to the leg are replacing dramatic, oversized shapes, like barrel jeans. They’re tasteful because they’re not overbearing or grungy, but they still have a little room to create a flattering shape (since we’re certainly not doing skinny jeans).
I spent a lot of the past few months trying to find the best straight leg jeans and found two that are tied for my first pick and I’m pictured in below: these Pistola Cassie Straight Leg Jeans and these budget-friendly Levi Jeans. The next pair I’m most excited to try are the Agolde 90’s Pinched Waist Jeans.
Here’s a roundup of the best jeans to have in your closet that will last you forever.

Even though loafers have always been my shoe over every year, they are the shoe of 2026. They’re sleek, minimal, elegant, and are an upgrade to any outfit. I personally gravitate towards loafers because they’re comfortable enough to chase around my kids, and professional enough to work at the office.
I’ve tried a lot of different loafers over the years and these Sam Edelman Loraine Loafers have been with me the longest (over 10 years). I also pull my Madewell Penny Loafers if I want a chunkier sole, and if I’m going for a mule, these gorgeous Scarosso mules are my favorite. Sam Edelman carries a more affordable, and equally gorgeous, pair of mules as well.
If you need tips on how to style loafers, I’ve got you covered here.

Shoes are getting softer and more elegant. Almond toes are everywhere, and slingback heels are having a strong return. This is a style I’m extra excited about because it screams elegance and chic.
These pair gorgeously with a pencil skirt if you want to lean more professional or looser jeans for a more relaxed look. These Stuart Weitzman slingback pumps are stunning, but I might start with these slingbacks from Quince since I’ve been wanted to try new Quince shoes for my Quince Review blog post.
Blazers have never gone anywhere, and this year, they’re still a major fashion anchor. They’re structured and flattering, and work extremely well with any other piece of clothing like jeans, trousers, dresses, and skirts. I’ve always loved them, which is why I have a blog post on styling blazers, and am happy that everyone else does too. I’m pictured in this Veronica Beard blazer, and a similar houndstooth print blazer as this one.
Two newer outerwear textures are also standouts this year:

Instead of busy prints, 2026 is leaning into texture and movement. Satin skirts, silk blouses, embossed leather bags, and elegant draping are statement pieces that can easily pair with the simple items you already own.
Satin and silk aren’t super realistic for my everyday life right now, but I do love where this is headed. Embossed leather bags, embossed leather loafers, scarf coats are very much my speed, so I’ll definitely be leaning into those textures in a way that actually works for me. I have these crocodile loafers, which is a great way to ease into the trend, and I’m considering buying this croc embossed leather mini tote.
Long coats are one of the strongest outerwear shapes of 2026. Not oversized. Not boxy. Long, elegant, timeless. Think calf-length to almost floor-skimming coats in wool or wool-blend fabrics that create a clean vertical line. It shouldn’t feel frumpy, but you don’t want it skin tight either. I’ve wanted a long black wool coat for a while and finally bought this wool cashmere coat from Aritzia last week.
The beauty of a long wool coat is that, because its a winter capsule wardrobe staple, it can be worn with tons of different looks whether you’re going casual or dressing to the 9’s! I recently got this Wool Scarf Coat from Petite Studio I’m wearing below both dresses up and dress down.
If you’re petite like me, here’s my full Petite Studio Review. Here are some of my other favorite winter coats.

Oversized sunglasses can be glamorous and classic (think Jackie O) or they can quickly go wrong and look ridiculous. A lot of this depends on your face size and shape, so try a few styles to find one you like. I love these Heidi Merrick sunglasses since they’re a statement but they aren’t my whole look.
Scarves are still sticking around. I was initially hesitant to step into this trend last year, but came around and bought this scarf, so I’m excited to explore more with different scarf looks this year beyond around the neck or tied on a bag.
This surprised me, but brooches are also in, whether you pin them onto a blazer or coat, or use one to hold a scarf in place. I was a big fan of brooches about 20 years ago, so I’m excited to pull out some family ones and maybe buy a few more fun modern ones like this brooch from Brackish.
Large, structural jewelry is another statement this year, and I’d recommend pairing it with clean, simple outfits. I find large jewelry annoying for my stage of life (my bracelets clang on my desk and large necklaces just get pulled on by my kids), but I love structural earrings like this!
Deer/fawn print, sometimes called Bambi print, is being billed by fashion editors as a gentler, more wearable alternative to bold animal patterns like leopard or zebra, and it’s showing up across jackets, dresses, handbags, and accessories.
I definitely had my moments with leopard and zebra about 15 years ago and I’m not ready to go back to it, but I’ve never really stopped loving Bambi print (so much so that I still have my Bambi print Barrington tote bag reviewed here). However, it’s actually pretty hard to find right now, so I’m guessing this is still a very early trend and we’ll start to see more of it as spring items begin to role out.
These are older photos, but here’s the Bambi Print Barrington Tote pictured.

Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year is Cloud Dancer, a soft natural white. I love love love this in my closet, even if it’s not the most practical colorway for my closet given my two feral young boys.
Also everywhere: navy, rich reds, blush pink, chocolate brown, and cream. And these are all colors that I already have in my closet. Perfect.
Even though some of these are trending, they’re not for me:
When you build a timeless, classic wardrobe, you don’t need to overhaul it every year. You can choose a couple new trends to test out (which I’d recommend testing with a budget-friendly option first) to feel modern, but everything else can stay the same.
