I’ve been using natural, aluminum free deodorant for years. It was one of the first products I switched to when I was learning about clean and safe beauty products. I have a round-up of all my favorite non-toxic deodorants, but today I’m sharing my honest Agent Nateur reviews and why it’s one of my top picks.

What is Deodorant?

First, let’s talk about the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant.

A deodorant is just like it sounds, it deodorizes. Antiperspirant also does what it sounds like, stops you from perspiring or sweating. The issue with antiperspirants is that they stop your body from doing what it’s meant to do: sweat. You won’t typically hear of a “clean antiperspirant” but rather a “clean deodorant” for this reason, given the ingredients required to stop sweating, like aluminum.

So, yes, Agent Nateur Holi(Rose) Deodorant allows your body to sweat and detoxify itself while reducing the body odor. It doesn’t mean you’ll sweat all day, but some underarm wetness is to be expected from time to time.

Key Ingredients

Coconut oil – Contains a combination of fatty acids, including lauric acid which is known to help soothe dryness and help restore the skin’s bacterial balance which reduces odor.

Avocado butter – Contains vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. This also hydrates while leaving a velvety finish, which is very nice compared to some of the chalky, hard natural deodorants I’ve tried.

Castor oil – Hydrates and reduces odor-causing bacteria.

Sandalwood oil – This is commonly used in aromatherapy rituals.

Rosa Damascena Oil – Hydrating and also used for aromatherapy.

I typically do NOT like rose scented products, but I LOVE the scent of this deodorant since the sandalwood balances it.

Here’s the full ingredient:

Organic cocos nucifera (organic coconut) oil, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), cera alba (beeswax), helianthus annuus (sunflower butter), persea gratissima (avocado) fruit butter, ricinus communis (castor seed oil), wildcrafted rosa damascena oil, wildcrafted santalum album (sandalwood) oil.

Tips for switching to a clean deodorant

It can take up to several weeks for your underarms to transition away from the bacteria and toxins that antiperspirants have trapped. To help speed the detoxification process along, here are a few tips.

First, use a charcoal bar to clean your underarms and detoxify as best possible. This will leave your skin feeling extra clean and improve the extra sweat or stink you may experience at first.

If you REALLY feel stinky, you could try using a charcoal mask on your underarms for a few weeks too, but I’m too lazy to do that. But, I know lots of women swear by it! I prefer using this underarm probiotic by Bella Beauty – it really does reduce odor.

Next, I’d try switching brands. Some natural deodorants just won’t work for some people!

My Honest Review of Agent Nateur Deodorant

Pros

Works REALLY well

I don’t stink, and I hope that sticks! Like I mentioned earlier, natural deodorants can be finicky as your hormones change, so I hope that this will last me a few years at least since I love it so much. (My hormones were definitely all over the place in my postpartum phase and while breastfeeding!)

Scent isn’t too strong

I’m VERY sensitive to smells (even essential oils), and the rose scent of this deodorant isn’t too strong at all. The Holi(rose) is signature scent is a blend of warming sandalwood and rose.

I haven’t tried any other Agent Nateur products, but I know they have a unisex deodorant that may be better for men. The unisex version has hits of lavender and eucalyptus, which is slightly more gender neutral than rose.

They also have a version of sensitive deodorant specifically for people with a history of sensitive skin that are prone to allergic reactions or irritation to even natural ingredients. The sensitive deodorant avoids irritants like baking soda. But as with all new skincare products, test a little on a small area on the inside of your wrist first, to make sure you don’t have a reaction.

Not too hard

Some natural deodorants pull on my skin. This formula applies smoothly and feels soft. Agent Nateur products are created for people with even the most sensitive skin.

Long-lasting

I don’t feel the need to reapply throughout the day, which is saying something considering many natural deodorants do require me to reapply.

Gorgeous packaging

Both the box and the actual deodorant are packaged beautifully, which doesn’t impact performance, of course, but it sure makes me happy. Extra points for them. A lot of natural deodorants look crunchy or homemade but this feels elevated.

Easy to find online

I order Agent Nateur deo from Nordstrom, but you can also order directly from Agent Nateur.

Cons

Runs out quickly

Unfortunately, this deodorant runs out faster than the other ones I’ve tried.

Only online

I haven’t found Agent Nature in stores where I typically shop, so I have to order it online. I don’t mind, but it does require me to remember to place an online order about a week before I run out.

Never ever seems to go on sale

The last con I’ve found is that I haven’t ever seen it on sale. And for $26, I wish it would.

Bottom Line

The Agent Nateur Holi(Rose) deodorant is my current favorite clean deodorant. It’s smooth, lasts all day, and doesn’t smell like fake fragrance and chemicals, which is far too common for body products.

If you use a clean deodorant, what brand is it? I know there are so many options out there now!

    1. I use Pit Liquor. I shied away from sticks due to the pulling you mentioned. Their scents are strong only in the first minute or so then fade away to nothing.
