Since moving to North Carolina seven years ago, I don’t get to spend all the major holidays with my family in Utah for various reasons. I’ve come to love solo holidays (last Christmas was wonderful!), but I also get really homesick at times. So when Tommy and his parents invited me to spend Thanksgiving with them in Pinehurst (a town south of Raleigh), and I was so incredibly grateful for their offer. Tommy and I came down to Pinehurst on Wednesday night, and we had a great Thanksgiving yesterday. It was a pretty perfect day. I also had a great time running in Pinehurst and can’t wait to explore some more running trails here.

I started the day with some coffee and walked Maizey while talking to my parents. This is such a pretty area! (I was so happy I was able to bring Maizey with me instead of boarding her!!)

The men went golfing and Tommy’s mom and I made our plan of attack for the day; we needed a few things from the grocery store so we headed there and then we had some time to relax before we needed to start cooking. I took Maizey for a 2.5 mile run (I can already tell her endurance is getting better after starting to run with her again a few weeks ago!). Of course, she still had to stop for some sniffs. 🙂

After she tired out, I dropped her off and went running for another 3 miles or so. There are a lot of trails where we are staying and it was so quiet and peaceful. The day was gorgeous too – 70 degrees, clear skies. I was in heaven.

The rest of the afternoon was spent in the kitchen with some time relaxing on the deck. Maizey patrolled instead of relaxed. We met another boxer, but they weren’t really fans of each other. Why do you have to be such a jerk Maizey?!

It was such a fun afternoon cooking and hanging out with Tommy and his parents, who are seriously wonderful. We had a great meal with lots of laughter. And lots of cranberry sauce. 🙂

I had so many moments yesterday where I was just overwhelmed with gratitude at how happy I am and how good life is. I have a wonderful family, an incredible boyfriend, so many fun and supportive friends near and far, I love where I live, I have a sweet dog (for the most part! 😉 ), and I so often have moments where I find myself thinking, “how did I get so lucky?” I am also so thankful for all of you! Thank you for reading my blog and for being part of my group of friends who are near and far – that’s kind of how blog friends feel. 🙂

    1. My boyfriend and I have not celebrated a thankgiving together yet, but we have already menu planned! So happy you were able to be with the one you love and his family!

    2. Sounds like an absolutely perfect Thanksgiving! This is my first holiday season as a mama, and I was so lucky to have my family come to me for Thanksgiving. I’ve been a longtime reader and just wanted to thank you for sharing small pieces of your life with us readers! It’s great to see you so happy, and I always love hearing about Maizey. She reminds me so much of my pit mix Miss Moneypenny. High maintenance, loves attention, but not always such a fan of other dogs! 🙂

    3. this post makes my heart happy 🙂 I’m so glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! You & Tommy are the cutest <3 The cranberry sauce was a HUGE hit (I'm pretty sure my dad ate 75% of it haha! He is already requesting it for Christmas, so that's the dish I'm bringing for the our big Holiday party!

    4. Teri, this post makes me so so happy!! You deserve all the happiness in the world. I miss you friend! Happy thanksgiving!
