I have a lot of makeup—my go-to routine favorites, less-used but loved products, and a steady stream of new ones to try. It’s easy for my storage to get crowded and messy if I don’t stay on top of it. Between skincare, makeup, hygiene essentials, and hair tools, bathroom storage can quickly turn chaotic—especially if you share the space with a partner or kids.

Lately, I’ve been focusing on makeup organization and thought these tips might help you too. In this post, I’ll share simple ideas for keeping things tidy and efficient.

15 Makeup Organization Ideas

The first step is to purge your makeup. I’m lucky to get lots of products generously sent from brands, but I’m guilty of holding onto things “just in case.” Now, if I don’t like a shade or formula after 2-3 uses, I set it aside. My friends and niece love the barely-used items, and I love clearing out what I won’t use!

1. Consider investing in a vanity.

If you’re a big makeup enthusiast like me, consider setting up a vanity. Since makeup is a daily routine, why not have a dedicated space for it? It keeps everything in one spot—and out of the bathroom. I wanted this in our new house, but with no good lighting or suitable spot, I’m sticking to the bathroom for now.

2. Opt for acrylic organizers and risers.

Acrylic organizers are perfect for makeup storage—they’re clear for easy access and simple to clean. With so many sizes and styles, finding the right fit for your space can be tricky. I’ve got a beauty drawer organizer in my Walmart cart, but I’m sticking with my current setup for now!

3. Use stackable storage bins.

When you can’t organize outward, organize upward. Stackable storage bins are so convenient because they make use of vertical space that might otherwise go unused. Plus, this narrow option is super handy—the top shelf slides!

4. Utilize the back of the door.

When I think of back-of-the-door storage, I usually think of shoes—but it’s great for more than that. While I wouldn’t store all my makeup there, it’s perfect for larger, sturdier items like hair tools, lotions, skincare, and deodorant. Clearing those out frees up space for your makeup collection! I shared my favorite travel bag for toiletries in my carry-on blog post.

5. Take advantage of extra wall space.

Like the back of the door, your extra wall space can easily transition into extra organizational space. Consider adding a cabinet, some floating shelves, or even just some command hooks to store or hang your products and get them off the counter and out of the drawers.

6. Pick up some drawer organizers.

Organize your makeup like you would utensils in a drawer. Measure your drawers and find organizers to fit, or grab a multipack with various sizes to mix and match!

7. Consider investing in a rolling storage cart.

A rolling makeup organizer, like a vanity, keeps your products together and out of the bathroom—but it’s even more convenient since you can move it anywhere, anytime!

8. Sort products by category.

Some recommend sorting by how often you use products, but I prefer organizing by category—eye products, foundations, concealers, etc.—so I can see all my options. If I tucked non-daily items away, I’d never use them. Out of sight, out of mind!

9. Recycle used candle jars for brushes.

Don’t toss your favorite candle jar when it’s empty—clean it out and use it to store makeup brushes! Their size and height are perfect, and clear jars make it easy to find what you need. I’m waiting for an empty one to try this myself!

10. Upcycle old ice trays for single-eye shadows.

Got single eyeshadows floating around? Upcycle an old ice tray! The shadows fit perfectly, making it easier to keep track of your colors. Pro tip: organize by color!

11. Prioritize your daily essentials.

Rummaging through beauty products when you’re late is a hassle, so keep your everyday essentials within reach! Store go-to items like foundation, mascara, and lipstick on the top shelf or in a bin for easy access. This is perfect for moms who do makeup in the carpool line. I organize by category since I switch up my routine (called skincare cycling – read about it here), but if you stick to a set routine, sorting by daily essentials works great! I shared my most recent Best of Beauty Awards on the blog with my must have skincare and makeup items.

12. Purge old and expired products.

Say goodbye to that old mascara and hello to a tidy bathroom! Regularly check expiration dates and toss anything past its prime. It’ll clear up clutter and help avoid skin irritation or eye infections. Gross, right? My favorite mascara is linked in this Tarte mascara review.

13. Store like products together.

Keep your lipstick with lipstick and eyeshadow with eyeshadow—it’s a simple way to save time and make finding things easier. You can even use small organizers inside your larger one for extra order!

14. Maximize your space.

Maximize your bathroom space with organizers that fit your needs. Try stackable or hanging organizers for lots of products, or suction cup organizers for limited counter space (just make sure they’re high quality!). The key is finding what works for you, keeping your beauty products organized and accessible.

Here’s a snap of my makeup draw before and then after!

The difference isn’t massive, but it feels SO much better. And now I know where everything goes.

The difference isn’t huge, but it feels so much better, and now I know where everything goes. I used one acrylic bin, two sunglasses boxes (top and bottom, for four sections), and the extra space for my foundations and brushes. You don’t need to spend a lot on organizers—just get creative with what you have. If you want a matching setup or just want to get it done, I’ve listed affordable ideas below!

15. Review often.

To keep your makeup organized, go through it regularly. I plan to check mine at least once a quarter, but ideally monthly, to see if anything needs to go.

I recently re-organized again, but with clear containers, and I purged a bunch of other makeup products. Here’s the final update as of March 2025.

 Bathroom Makeup Organizers

Acrylic Organizers and Risers

These organizers maximize vertical space on your bathroom counters. They come in various sizes and can be stacked to create a multi-tiered system, keeping makeup organized and visible. Mix and match sizes for a personalized storage solution!

Makeup Trays

It’s often easier to organize makeup when everything is laid out on one level. If you prefer this, try a makeup tray instead of a tall organizer. This one has small and large compartments for products of all sizes, including nail polish.

Over the Door Hangers

Don’t overlook the back of your bathroom door! Use over-the-door organizers or hooks for items like hair brushes, towels, and robes. You can even add command hooks for necklaces and bracelets. It’s a great way to keep your bathroom organized and clutter-free. Here’s another option I like.

Mini Storage Boxes

Mini stackable storage boxes are perfect for small bathroom spaces. They come in various sizes and materials, allowing you to create a multi-tiered system. Use them for extra makeup storage and label them to customize the setup to your needs.

Candle Jars for Makeup Brushes

Reuse empty candle jars to store makeup brushes! Wash out the jars, remove labels, and you’ve got a cute, functional solution. Keeping them in sight also helps you remember to clean them more often, plus it’s eco-friendly!

Spice Racks

Spice racks aren’t just for the kitchen—they’re great for storing nail polish! The small shelves display your favorite shades and save drawer space. For a hanging option, try a farmhouse-style rack.

Display Case

A display case is perfect for showing off your beauty collection! It keeps products visible and accessible while adding a touch of glam. You can even use it for perfumes, jewelry, and other stylish accessories.

Drawer Inserts

Inserts can be customized to organize items like eyeliners, lip liners, and mascara, making it easy to store and find what you need. (Check out my roundup of the best tubing mascaras here.)

Jewelry Storage

Store your jewelry in a dedicated organizer—like a jewelry box, hanging organizer, or wall shelf— to save bathroom counter space while keeping your jewelry tangle-free and accessible.

Wall Shelves

Use vacant wall space with shelves to store and display skincare, hair products, and makeup. Floating shelves add a stylish touch to any bathroom!

360-Degree Cosmetic Storage

Spin and store with 360-degree cosmetic storage units! I use one under my sink for skincare. These compact, rotating units keep makeup, skincare, and brushes organized and easily accessible, perfect for small spaces and clutter-free countertops.

Makeup Organization Ideas

Suction Cup Organizers

These are a lifesaver for maximizing bathroom space. Attach them to smooth surfaces like mirrors or shower walls for extra storage for your everyday beauty products, especially smaller items.

Jewelry Trays

Jewelry trays are a stylish and practical addition to your bathroom. They organize jewelry while freeing up space for makeup, perfumes, and skincare. The raised edges keep items in place, adding a touch of sophistication to your decor.

Hanging Mesh Pouches

In a tight space? Mesh pouches are perfect! Hang them on a hook or towel bar to store makeup, hair tools, and more. The mesh lets you easily see what’s inside, saving time. Though designed for the fridge, they’re great for the bathroom too. Here’s a larger option!

Lazy Susan

For ultimate convenience, the Lazy Susan is a game-changer. Store beauty products on the rotating tray and spin it to easily access what you need—no reaching or twisting, like having your own makeup assistant.

Stackable Drawers

Store beauty products in stackable drawers for a clutter-free bathroom. The clear design lets you easily see and access items, while saving counter and shelf space. No more digging for that perfect sheet mask you keep forgetting!

Makeup Cart

This rolling cart is perfect for those on the go. Move it from room to room while keeping all your beauty products organized and within reach. With multiple shelves and drawers, it stores makeup, brushes, and skincare. It’s a mobile makeup studio! Here’s a pink version if you want a pop of color.

Wicker Baskets

Store beauty products in stylish wicker baskets for a charming, natural vibe. They keep everything organized while letting you see what’s inside. Use one for all your products or multiple baskets to separate by category. They look so good on display, you won’t want to hide them!

Metal Trays

Metal trays have a chic, industrial look and are perfect for organizing beauty products on your bathroom counter. Use them for brushes, perfumes, or skincare. Their sleek design suits any decor, and the metal material is easy to clean, keeping your products looking fresh.

Magnetic Board

A magnetic board on your bathroom wall can be a total life-saver when it comes to organizing your makeup collection. You can attach your everyday products, like your tweezers and eyelash curler, to the board for easy access and visibility. Even more, the magnetic board adds a fun and unique touch to your bathroom decor. You can even get creative and use cute magnetic containers to store your beauty products!

Final Thoughts

Organizing your makeup will give you peace and save time, turning your morning routine into a relaxing ritual instead of chaotic mayhem. With these tips, you’ll feel more confident and relaxed as you start your day, knowing everything is in its place.
