I have a rule with jewelry: I don’t buy it unless I know I’ll still want to wear it in ten years. That means I’ve been deliberate, sometimes almost annoyingly slow, about building my jewelry collection.
So when Brilliant Earth reached out to partner on this post, I approached it the same way I approach everything I share here: I wanted to find out for myself if it’s worth buying. I’ve seen the brand around for years, but I’d never actually held one of their pieces.
Brilliant Earth sent me several pieces, and now that I’ve held and worn them, I have thoughts.
This post covers my honest reaction to the pieces I tried, a breakdown of what makes Brilliant Earth different from other online diamond retailers, and answers to the questions I actually had going in.
I also have a video review if you prefer to watch rather than read. You can also watch the same Brilliant Earth review video on my YouTube channel.
If you’re here for the short version: yes, it’s worth it. The shopping experience is seamless from start to finish, and the jewelry backs it up. From the moment I put the first piece on, the quality spoke for itself. The craftsmanship is unmistakable, the settings are secure, and the diamonds have a clarity and brightness you notice immediately

These were the first things I put on and the last things I wanted to take off since the pavé-set hoops are truly gorgeous. The 14K yellow gold is a warm, clean tone. The pavé detail is precise. I’ve tested more affordable versions of this style, and they never quite land the same way, which I credit to the unique stone placement.
I don’t typically like jewelry with words, names, or dates since I find it cheesy. But this one is different. Their Love Decoded line uses Morse code to convey meaning, meaning no one but you would know that the flush-set natural diamonds on this bracelet spell “love” in Morse code. It’s a sleek, 14K yellow gold, a petite 1/10-inch profile that sits flat against the wrist, and the spring box clasp is secure without being fussy to open. It’s made with repurposed gold, which I appreciate, and it layers beautifully.
I’ve worn a cross necklace for years, so I have lots of opinions about this one. I want something dainty that I can leave on all the time, I want it to last a lifetime, and I want it sleek enough to layer with any other necklaces I may add that day. The Brilliant Earth Cross Diamond Pendant checks all my boxes. Plus, the gold on this one is also responsibly sourced from repurposed metal.
The name is doing some work here, but honestly, it earns it. These are, indeed, extra small white gold lab diamond hoops, making them the kind of earrings I can wear every single day. I put these in on a morning I was running out the door and forgot I was wearing them, which is the highest compliment I can give an earring. They read as white gold, which is a cooler, more minimal tone than my usual yellow, but the lab diamonds pop against it in a way that works so well. If you wanted just one pair of earrings you could wear every single day, these are the ones.
This bracelet is simple, and that’s what makes it exceptional; it has bezel-set diamonds (½ total carat weight spread against five stones) in a clean gold bracelet. Bezel settings protect the stone on all sides, which means these diamonds aren’t going anywhere, and the profile sits low and sleek against the wrist. It’s easily stackable (perfect with the Love Decoded bracelet). If I were treating myself, this is the piece I’d buy without a second thought.

Beyond the individual pieces, it’s worth knowing the collections that make Brilliant Earth unique.
First, let’s explain the Kimberley Process, an international certification established in 2003 to prevent “blood diamonds” (i.e., rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments) from entering the mainstream supply chain. On paper, the Kimberley Process sounds thorough, but in practice, it has well-documented limitations. The definition of “conflict diamond” under the Kimberley Process is narrow, meaning diamonds mined under dangerous labor conditions, with significant environmental damage, or in regions with serious human rights concerns, can still pass through the process as “clean.”
Brilliant Earth’s Beyond Conflict Free Diamond™ standard goes further. They select diamonds based on their ethical and environmentally responsible origins, not just whether they technically cleared the Kimberley bar. They source from specific regions and mines with traceable supply chains, including Botswana, which is one of the more transparent and responsibly managed diamond-producing regions in the world. This level of supply chain specificity is genuinely rare in the industry.
They also support Moyo Gems and Fairmined, two initiatives that create direct economic benefit for artisanal mining communities. Moyo Gems works specifically with women miners in Tanzania, and Fairmined certifies responsibly mined gold from Latin America.
Brilliant Earth’s sourcing framework is specific, documented, and structured around accountability.
Brilliant Earth’s diamonds are real. Both natural diamonds and the lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They have the same chemical composition, the same physical properties, and the same optical characteristics. The difference is origin, not substance.
Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled environments that replicate the conditions under which natural diamonds form in the earth. The result is a stone that is, in every measurable way, a diamond. It’s not cubic zirconia. It’s not moissanite. It’s not a simulant. It’s a diamond grown above ground rather than below it.
All of Brilliant Earth’s diamonds, natural and lab-grown, are independently certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the International Gemological Institute (IGI). These are the gold standards of diamond certification. When you see a GIA or IGI certificate, you know the stone’s cut, color, clarity, and carat weight have been assessed by gemologists who are not affiliated with the seller.
The practical implication for shoppers: lab-grown diamonds are generally more accessible at a given carat weight and quality level than natural diamonds. If you want a larger stone or a higher clarity grade within a specific budget, lab-grown opens up options that natural diamonds might not. And if provenance and environmental footprint matter to you, the ability to know exactly how your stone was made is valuable.
Whether you choose natural or lab-grown ultimately comes down to personal values and priorities. Brilliant Earth doesn’t endorse one more highly over the other. They offer both with the same level of care and certification rigor.
There are many places to buy diamonds online now, but Brilliant Earth has been doing so since 2005, with 20 years of experience in a space most competitors entered within the last decade. Here’s what actually sets them apart:
When you put all of this together, along with the ethical sourcing and intentionally crafted collections, Brilliant Earth occupies a position that’s actually rare: a fine jewelry brand with genuine ethical credentials, a great digital experience, real in-store options, strong customer protections, and pieces that are actually beautiful.
I started this review with a high bar, and Brilliant Earth cleared it. This is for the intentional buyer: someone who cares about what their jewelry is made of and wants something beautiful.
Whether you’re shopping for an engagement ring, a gift, or something for yourself, the experience delivers. The designs, pricing, and shopping experience make them an easy choice.
