Hey guys! Happy Monday! I told ya I was gonna tell you about the St. Leo’s 10K today. So here we go!

The race didn’t start until 8:45, so I slept in until 7:00, had some coffee & green tea, and some cereal before bibbing up. Maizey thinks race bibs are stupid.

I wore my four-leaf clover headband, my green Vibram FiveFingers, and my green race shirt from last year’s Moab Half Marathon. So bummed I missed it this year – it’s one of my favorite races! And uh, apparently I have crooked knees – look at them!  It looks like my right leg is broken!

Maizey didn’t discriminate though. After the run, she still liked licking the sweat off my crooked knees.

One of my super-speedy friends that I’ve been running with paced me throughout the race. Poor guy – I’m a little grumpy when I’m running really hard. But he put up with it and I ran a great time! (And then he went on to run 10 more miles. Just ran through the finish line of the 10K and said, “Good job!” and kept going. ha!)

10K (6.2 miles)

  • Chip time: 44:02
  • Gun time: 44:04
  • Average pace: 7:06 min/mile
  • Hills: too many
  • Whining: probably a bit too much
  • Grunting: a fair amount
  • Sweat: a lot.
  • Official results: here

I was disappointed because I really wanted to be in the top 3 overall females, and I wasn’t. I stuck around for the awards ceremony because I was pretty sure I took first in my age group. Impressive Fact: the guy that won the 5K also won the 10K (the races back to back).

And I did win my age group! Wahoo! I was 6th overall for females too. Not too shabby!

Maizey thinks bibs are stupid but she likes medals.

To celebrate, once my friend finished his long run, we headed to First Street Draught House for lunch and a beer.

I ordered the chef salad and asked them to add chicken to it. The bartender said, “It already comes with turkey and ham. A lot of it. Still want chicken.” Yes, yes I do. I was craving protein like crazy.

Do you like to run races with friends or solo? I typically go alone unless I’m running with a faster friend who will push me to meet a PR, or I’m running with a friend to push her to PR. That usually means the faster person doesn’t PR but as long as we’ve decided it beforehand, we’ve both been ok with it. But 99% of the time, I like to do my own thing, especially now that I’m getting more competitive with myself and my times.

    1. WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME you protein lovin’ beer drinkin’ racer!!!

    2. Right now, I still prefer running with a friend – training or races. I was “with” a friend at St. Leo’s, even though I was a couple of minutes ahead of her. I’d have loved to run right with her, but she encouraged me to go ahead if I could (she was not having her best race). I’d have paced myself better with a friend alongside. As it was, I started out too fast and was worn out by mile 4. Still, it was a good experience, and I finished about 5 minutes faster than I expected.
PS – You didn’t look grumpy!

    3. Great news! Congratulations!! You have inspired me to “think” about running a race this year 😉

    4. Awesome job! You give me hope hat I can indeed get faster!

    5. Holy crap- great job, Teri! That time is incredible!

I have always done my own thing, too, but would certainly consider running with a faster friend… although I think i’d get scarred right before and be probably get whiney too! 😉

    6. Congrats on the big finish – you rock!!! And for the record – I like to run solo for the SAME reason. 🙂

    7. That’s awesome! Congratulations! I wish I could get my pace as fast as yours- I usually run races alone but maybe I should find a fast friend!
