Updated July 2026
My skin has gotten drier as I’ve gotten older, and that changed a lot about my makeup routine. Less is more, and hydrating products are key – and using cream blush instead of powder has made my skin look so much better throughout the day. While I still love a powder blush, cream blush is my go-to these days. (And liquid makeup is more your thing; I’ve got a separate post on the best liquid blushes.)
Glossier Cloud Paint is where most of us started with cream blush, but there are so many options now that I’d argue are better than the OG. Want the quick version? Scroll to the table below. And if you want the full breakdown, plus tips to apply and blend, keep reading.

Here’s the quick-scan version if you just want the short answer:
| Product | Best For | Finish | Skin Type | Clean? |
| Rhode Pocket Blush | Best Overall | Natural, skin-like | All types | No |
| Olive Rose HT Blush Glow | Best Non-Toxic | Creamy, long-wear | All types | Yes |
| Jones Road Miracle Balm | Best Dewy Finish | Dewy, hydrating | Dry to normal | No |
| Tower 28 BeachPlease | Best Affordable Clean Pick | Dewy, can lean tacky | All types | Yes |
| Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks | Best for Mature Skin | Skin-like, dewy | Mature/textured | Yes |
| Beauty Pie Supercheek | Best Bold | Pigmented, blendable | All types | No |
| MERIT Flush Balm | Best for Beginners | Sheer, buildable | All types | Yes |

Rhode’s Pocket Blush is the one I use the most.
It’s pigmented but easy to blend and incredibly creamy, so it glides on easily. Rhode’s colors are especially pretty compared to other brands, and even ones that I suspected would be a little crazy on me (like Candy Apple) look great. The one downside is that Rhode doesn’t use clean ingredients.

I was torn between whether to make Rhode or Olive Rose HT Blush Glow my top pick, but eventually Rhode won because of its packaging and shade options. But Olive Rose easily wins the non-toxic category. It wears longer than most non-toxic brands, and since it contains hydroxytyrosol, it’s skincare+blush and not just blush.
They have a decent range of colors ( my favorite is Sweet Rose) and it’s under $30. Plus, it layers beautifully over the Olive Rose Skin Tint.

The Jones Road Miracle Balm is my pick for a dewy, skin-like finish. It’s sheer and buildable, and it looks like skin rather than makeup sitting on top of skin.
It blends out easily with a big fluffy brush and doesn’t settle into any lines. My skin looks hydrated after, not just flushed.
One thing to flag: this is very dewy, almost sticky. I found my hair would sometimes get stuck in it throughout the day.

If you love a strong pop of color, the Beauty Pie Supercheek Cream Blush is a standout. The pigment payoff is impressive, and you don’t need much to make a statement. Despite the bold application, it’s surprisingly easy to blend.
“French Raspberry” and “Fresh Faced” are my favorite shades. If you want your blush to be the star of your makeup, this is the one.

MERIT Flush Balm is great if you’re a cream blush novice. It’s very sheer and buildable, so it’s nearly impossible to mess up. But because it’s so sheer, it’s one of the reasons I don’t love it as much as the others. (Then again, I don’t love most MERIT makeup.)
I find I have to reapply after a few hours since it doesn’t have a lot of staying power, but it really is a beginner-friendly option if you’re worried about blending a cream blush.

Westman Atelier’s Baby Cheeks is my pick for mature skin. It’s skin-like and hydrating, but not dewy or drying. While I do have mature skin (I’m 41), I didn’t feel like this was quite as dewy as Rhode, but it more so felt like it hydrated my skin. I also love the packaging with the magnetic lid.

Tower 28’s BeachPlease is the best if you want something clean without the price tag. It’s around $22, which is a steal for a clean product that works well. Tower 28 targets a younger audience, but they still prioritize clean ingredients, which is a great thing to see in the industry.
I don’t love the packaging and it’s a little tackier than most in this roundup, but for an affordable clean pick, it’s solid. And if you’re a Tower 28 fan, they also took my top spot in my lip gloss review.
It depends on your skin and the look you want. Cream tends to give a more skin-like, blended finish, while liquid blushes build up more pigment and last longer. If liquid sounds more like your speed, check out my best liquid blushes guide; that’s where my Rare Beauty and Saie picks live.
Olive Rose HT Blush Glow or Westman Atelier’s Baby Cheeks is my top pick. Both are skin-like and hydrating. Jones Road’s dewy finish works well, too, if you want a dewy finish.
Some are, some aren’t. If you want a clean blush, Olive Rose and Tower 28 BeachPlease are both solid picks. While I’ve tried ILIA’s Multi Stick many times over the years and it has a cult following, I just don’t love it since it pulls on my skin when I apply it directly, doesn’t blend easily, and doesn’t stay on for very long. (I do love other Ilia makeup, however.)
Some do; some disappear quickly. You’ll want a matte finish and may want to layer powder blush or translucent powder under and/or over the blush. Nudestix makes a gorgeous matte blush. I don’t have oily skin, but I still really like my Nudestix blush, especially because it has a built-in blending brush.
Less is more, and building up slowly beats applying a lot at once. You can apply it directly to the skin and blend from there (with a brush or your fingers), but my favorite way to apply is to run my brush over the blush in the packaging and then blend onto the skin. It looks more natural with this method.
It depends on the product. If your skin is sensitive or prone to breakouts, stick with clean, non-toxic options like Olive Rose, Tower 28 BeachPlease, or the MERIT Flush Balm.
Choosing a cream blush comes down to personal preference and what your skin needs. There’s no one-size-fits-all, but Rhode or Olive Rose are pretty close to being perfect. And while it felt like more work using a cream blush at first, after years of using powder blushes, I now feel the opposite. It’s fast to apply, natural-looking, and makes my dry skin look glowy – and that’s pretty much everything I want in makeup these days.
