Good morning friends! I’m sitting here, eating some homemade donuts and sipping some freshly-ground french pressed coffee. I love leisure weekend mornings. This weekend has been a nice one. I did a couple hour of blog work yesterday and then a couple hours of real-job work. The bad thing about my banged-up knee is that I still can’t work out, but the good news is that I have lots of spare time to get caught up on some things. Like shopping. 🙂

After a week of only wearing flats because of my knee, I realized that I really need more than one pair of flats for work so I broke down and bought these Tory Burch Caroline flats (using eBates to get cash back, of course) that I’ve been eyeing for about 8 months and they finally went on sale! (sorry for the weird square – my screen capture was being weird.)

I’ve never bought expensive shoes until the past couple months when after literally trying 4 different pairs of black flats that all hurt my feet, I bought these Cole Haan Astoria ballet flats (also, using eBates). And I’ve worn them almost everyday to work since I got them. Definitely worth the investment for me! They were a life saver this past week!

I love the nude color of the Tory Burch ones but my brown flats are 5 years old and honestly, pretty gross. So I need a new pair of brown flats and my friend Gabi introduced me to these beauties from Madewell – the French Knot Pointy Skimmer. They are a much lower price point, which is awesome, but I’m still holding out for a coupon code. Then, I’m going to take a serious shopping hiatus. I can more easily justify purchases for work since I wear them all the time, but still, a girl’s got a budget to keep! [Here’s my post about how I budget.]

After working (and ahem, shopping), I made some homemade donuts (more on that this week!) and then went to the WS Festival Ballet’s production of Dracula. Obviously an excuse to wear red lipstick. 😉 I’m also loving the middle part with soft waves. I usually part on the left side but I feel like it’s a whole different look with a center part!

It was a very short show but very entertaining, and the female dancers were so talented. It was such a fun little outing to kick off Halloween. Which reminds me, I need to get out my decorations today!

Alright, I’m off to mass. I’m not really religious anymore but every once in a while I really enjoy attending mass. It’s so different than the church I grew up going to (which I loved for many reasons too) so it’s a little bit of a cultural experience for me. Most importantly, it serves as a good reminder to just be a little better and realize all my blessings.

I’ll have some weekender links for you later today! Have a great morning!

Which clothing pieces do you invest in? I’ll invest in jeans and shoes because I keep my jeans for years and I wear my shoes into the ground. And I’ll invest in purses but I’m very picky about the ones I buy and only buy them very sporadically.

Are you a side or middle parter? 🙂

    1. Ooh, I had been eyeing those cole haan flats for a while, but never bit the bullet. I definitely agree that shoes are worth spending more on. When I try cheap shoes on, it is rare that they feel comfy enough to buy. And I only own two pair of boots because once you try on Fryes or other well made boots, you just can’t fall for the other guys. Jeans and dresses are the other items I’ll spend more on because they last forever and dresses are an entire outfit in one piece.

    2. I just wrote a blog post about needing to invest in a new pair of black flats! Thank goodness for this post! Off to check out your recommendations!

    3. I am a side parter all the way — every once in a while I try parting in the middle, but it never looks quite right, so I end up changing it back to the side before I even leave the house 🙂

    4. I definitely invest in shoes! After dealing with plantar fasciitis and bursitis (I kind of have old lady feet…) I won’t go for anything without support! I love Keen, Sanita, Dansko, Merrell (my favorite brown loafers!), and of course a good pair of running and/or trail shoes + superfeet.

I’m starting to put more $ into jeans – but that just means realizing that Target or Old Navy jeans are fairly ill-fitting, and Levis fit my figure better. So, not really an investment compared to shoes. And I like bags that will last, but I don’t have fancy purses – my latest is a cross-body from Kavu.

    5. Love the Tory flats. Brett bought me the black heels as a surprise for Christmas 2 years ago. Best shoes ever!!

    6. I wore Tory Burch for years, but last year tried Tieks. A million color choices, amazing customer service, and comfort beyond belief. You’ll never wear anything else!
