Decorating for the Holidays on a Budget

Holiday decor is one of my favorite things about this time of year. Whether you’re a firm believer in no decor before Thanksgiving, or you’d prefer to keep your tree up all year, we can all agree, it’s fun. I’m also usually someone who waits to decorate until after Thanksgiving and I’ve always been Team Real Tree but once my son was born, we started doing a fake tree (much to my husband’s chagrin), but I honestly love it.

It was so easy to put up and I love that I don’t have to remember to water because mom brain is real, and I can’t remember anything. It’s also so nice to not need to clean up a trail of pine needles so perhaps I’m bah-humbugging, but I’m happy with our choice.

We bought a pre-lit tree and I’ve loved having it on throughout the day and evening. I put the tree up the week before Thanksgiving, but I wait to decorate it until after Thanksgiving (this year, my mom will be visiting from Utah so I’m hoping we can decorate it together the weekend after!).  I like that the tree gets to be up a little longer without totally ignoring Thanksgiving!  (Never mind I still have fall garland and pumpkins right next to the tree! If you need fall decor, so much is on sale right now!)

Okay, let’s round up some of the best, affordable holiday decor I’ve found so far this year!

Since holiday decor is a seasonal thing (see my fall decor here), it’s hard for me to justify spending a lot of money on it even though I know I’ll use it for years! I know I’ll love it, but then I have to pack it away, so I just don’t feel great about buying everything from high end retailers. However, if you’re engaged and adding to a registry, definitely add a few special holiday pieces that you’ll love forever, like some holiday china (and by the way, that set is on HUGE sale!). And gifting holiday decor is always fun if you plan ahead to gift it early in the season!

Hopefully these finds help inspire your Christmas decor.

Faux Trees and Garland

Wreaths

Indoor Accents

Pillows

Where are your favorite places to buy holiday decor? And are you team faux or real tree? Do you put it up before or after Thanksgiving? Growing up, we usually didn’t get our tree until Christmas Eve and we decorated it that night.
