A New Hairstyle

post featured image

WOAH, today was a crazy day! I’m really loving my job but it is super busy lately. And September has seriously flown by….I think because I was out of town for the first nine days when I was at Folly Beach.

I’m excited for the fall season – my favorite – but I need to make sure I slow down and take time to enjoy it. Sometimes (ahem, usually)I overbook myself and even the fun things I plan end up stressing me out because I don’t allow enough down time. And I really need down time. For me, down time usually involves a hot bath and a glass of wine. Or playing with Maizey in the backyard or taking her for a walk. Yoga can be great downtime too, as long as I treat it as a mental/emotional/spiritual experience instead of a workout.

Getting my hair done can also feel like down time if I’m not stressed about getting other things done. Unfortunately, last night, I was stressed about getting other things done so I didn’t really relax while I was getting foiled up. A little wine at the salon helped a little though. 🙂

I had a groupon for a salon in town. I am typically very wary of discounted hair services offered on Living Social and Groupon, but I had heard good things about this salon so I bought it. For you fellow Winston Salemites, I went to Jennifer Kaye Designs and Shane Boone did my hair. {I just realized how outdated my hairstyles page is! I need to find pictures from the last two years to add! Sheesh time flies.}

Hair

I am thrilled with the cut and color. I have a ton of hair and he did a full highlight and lowlights and really took his time with it. Most stylists will only do a partial foil on me (i.e. only highlight the top half–if that–of my hair) or charge me a crazy amount for a full, but when I asked him his regular price for the service, I was pleasantly surprised. He recommended that we add some shorter layers to create more movement so my hair didn’t just hang. He also thinned it out a ton. I was really happy with the cut, the color and the regular pricing info that he gave me. I plan to go back.

I haven’t had such short layers in a long time or had a stylist use a round brush to dry all my hair for a long time. Usually they’ll dry it using the round brush a little and then flat iron. He didn’t touch my hair with a flat iron which made me happy since I suck at flat ironing and I tend to like a little oomph to my hair. The layers and curly bounce made it feel like a more natural hairstyle, which I wasn’t expecting at all. I thought I was anti-short layers but apparently I’m not. Plus, he blended my growing-out bangs in beautifully! Finally!

Most of you probably already saw this picture on Instagram or Facebook, and thank you all so much for your kind words and likes! 🙂

What do you do for downtime?

    2. Love it! I’ve never colored my hair (I’m so scared since it’s very dark) and am so envious of your bravery in the hair department 🙂

    3. I love your haircut!
      Downtime is crucial to me too. Every morning I take an extra hour to curl up in a comfy chair while I eat my bowl of oatmeal, sip a hot cup of coffee and read blogs. It’s the best way to start the day!

    4. Cute haircut! My downtime usually involves me being in the kitchen. I love to relax trying out new recipes and prepping meals for the week. 🙂

    5. Thanks for reminding me to take some time and slow down to appreciate the moment. Life is crazy busy right now and it’s amazing what a walk in nature will do for you.
